Good news coming out of Northwest School Board Meeting tonight. Looks like they are going to approve a HS Girl's soccer team for 2013 season. Very proud of the School Board for stepping up tonight for their female students. Here's hoping some more SOC schools follow Minford; West and now Northwest.

About time!!!! So glad to hear this. Hopefully more schools follow suit soon. Maybe in a few more years we can have a girls SOC.

Great news for the Northwest soccer community. Hopefully a few more schools in the SOC will follow (Wheelersburg, South Webster & Valley) and get Girls Soccer recognized as an official SOC sport, so Northwest can start competing for SOC titles. With the amount of talent at Northwest I would expect them to compete sooner rather than later.

Glad to hear it. Hopefully now we see more schools stepping up and doing the same thing.

This is maybe a stupid question, but can the girls play both Volleyball and Soccer? With the smaller SOC schools, that almost has to be the case.

This is typically left up to the individual school, AD, and/or district.
There is no state rule that does not allow it. There is no NFHS rule that does not allow it.
I don't know how small the schools are that of question, but where I am located now (and where I spent 2 years elsewhere), I saw VERY small schools carry football and boys soccer AND volleyball and girls soccer. They all had golf and cross country too, typically. These schools were graduating <50 students per year.

I heard that the only problem would be that games with soccer/volleyball will conflict. If I heard right, most games for both are on Tuesday and Thursdays.

I guess I phrased that incorrectly. I mean the girls can play both soccer and volleyball. My daughter loves soccer but also thinks the world of the volleyball coach. Even though it's a couple years away, we're concerned about her having to make a choice.

Let's hope this is the toughest decision she'll ever have to make...

Maybe you guys can get together with South Point and Chesapeake and form a Southern Ohio Girls Soccer League. It wouldn't cost hardly anything and the kids could play for a championship and all league team awards. Something to think about!

She'd love to play both. I hope she gets the chance.
