I guess the online voting was a success. It appears that most teams are seeded where they belong. There is always some debate with teams near the middle, but I think they got it right.

Still don't understand how the brackets are determined. Why is there a SE north, south, west, etc. and they all play in different brackets? I know the pat answer is there are many D3 schools, but why not have a south winner, north winner, etc? I mean, you have to play each other eventually, why not cut down on the travel time and expense and put them all in the same bracket?

Each of the 3 groups are seeded from top to bottom and then distributed over the 3 sectionals. First round games are within one of the 3 groups, so travel is limited a little in the first round. The main reason for not having a straight north, south and west champion is to even out the quality of teams advancing to the district tournament. For example, if Leesburg, Lynchburg and North Adams were the best 3 teams in all of the SE Disctrict, they would be eliminating eachother and only 1 would advance and weaker teams from the North or South brackets would advance as well. I am not sure if that makes sense, but the idea of getting the best 3 teams advancing is the objective.

So the sectionals change from year to year and you never know what sectional you are in until they decide the brackets? (Not being a smart-aleck just trying to understand) And the best 3 teams in the district are subjective? I know they determne the "best teams" on win/loss, strength of schedule, etc., but seems to me if the sectionals were the same every year, then teams could decide schedules on who they have to beat to get the best seed. In KY many of the best teams are in the same districts and regionals. But hey, if you want to advance you gotta beat them.

The same teams are in the west, north, or south each year and you are seeded within that group and your sectional semifinal game will be within that group, but the sectional finals get mixed around. There are 5 boys D3 teams in the east district and that is treated just like one of the 3 sectional groups in the southeast district and sends a team to the district finals and that confuses matters even more.

Yet the girls are all seeded 1-16 and play it out?

Girls are seeded 1-15 and there are 2 sectional champs that move on to the district finals
