Waverly at Chillicothe Thur. Oct. 10th
Waverly at Chillicothe Thur. Oct. 10th
Final regular season game for Chillicothe and "Senior Night". The game will be played on the new turf at Herrnstein Field and the start time is 7 PM.
Re: Waverly at Chillicothe Thur. Oct. 10th
This should be a good game to watch. Chillicothe trying to complete their perfect season and maybe a little payback for Waverly knocking them out of the tournament last year. Too bad Chillicothe moved up to D1 this year. They probably would have had an easy road through the districts, but that will be a much tougher path in D1. How many seniors does Chillicothe have this year?
Re: Waverly at Chillicothe Thur. Oct. 10th
I agree this should be a good game. Chillicothe is coming in on an undefeated record and is the favorite, but Waverly has been playing well lately and always seems to turn things up a notch this time of the year. Can Waverly's midfield create enough possession to get the ball into space to their playmakers. If they can then they can pull of the upset. If they can't they will have to bunker down and rely on their defense which has been playing great as well.

As for an easy road... They would be #1 seed and favorities....but looking at the district I think any of the top 5 or 6 seeds could win the thing with some timely play and maybe a little luck. Chillicothe would fall right into that mix.
Re: Waverly at Chillicothe Thur. Oct. 10th
Agreed... No one ever has an easy road in the D2 South. Chillicothe would be one of the favorites but multiple teams would be very capable of winning the district. Waverly, Jackson, Marietta, Warren, Athens....just to name a few. Good luck to all teams!
Re: Waverly at Chillicothe Thur. Oct. 10th
My comment was based on Chillicothe being in the D2 North. I assumed that with Minford and South Point being in the south this year, they would have moved to the north to make both have 9 teams. I agree that the south is very tough and some good teams aren't going to be able to advance as far as maybe they should. If Chillicothe would have been in say the place of Fairfield and was playing Hillsboro and Miami Trace......that's what I was meaning by my earlier comment.Bucknuts wrote:Agreed... Great game last night... a few thoughts.
Chillicothe scored early, then went up 2-0 in the second half. Chillicothe limited Waverly to very few "quality" opportunities on goal. Chillicothe had a few better looks but had trouble finishing around the goal. I had shots directly on goal at 12-5 in the CAVs favor. I only felt 3 of Waverlys shots on goal were dangerous, one of which went in. The same could be said foe some of Chilly's chances.
Waverly's GK was tremendous all night. Purpero was held in check most of the game...doubling him whenever possible and not letting him get runs started. He played center most of the night. I personally believe he is more dangerous on the outside and was glad to see him inside which made him easier to keep track of. Waverly's goal came on a nice penetrating ball played though Chillicothe's center backs by Purpero to Bradley. It was one of the few times he got loose. Defenses for both teams were sharp, and very scrappy. The game was a defensive struggle throughout. The back lines of each team did a great job.
Chillicothe will have to continue to play strong defense and do a better job of finishing if they want to continue success in the post-season. Waverly is very solid and certainly has the potential to make a run to the regionals. Their seeding is not representative of their team's ability, but thats a very tough seeding process in the Southeast D2 South.
