2013 SOC
2013 SOC
Waverly and South Webster return as multiple year champions. Waverly will be going for 4 straight and I believe South Webster has even more than that. Minford, Wheelersburg, and Valley all look poised to change things around. It should be an interesting few months.
Things get started early in the SOC II race as Minford visits Waverly on Thursday for a huge tilt!

Re: 2013 SOC
Also, South Webster plays at Minford on Tuesday, which is a game that will probably have a lot of "scouts" in the stands to get an early look at both teams.
Re: 2013 SOC
Waverly returns quite a few this year. Experience will help. Two strong scoring threats. Burg is young but will get better each game. Burg can score but can they defend? Minford potentially the opposite. Scoring may not be easy. Have some speed which is always dangerous. SW similar story. They always can defend but can they score mor than the opponent. Out scoring SOC 1 opponents no hard but how will they fair in non conference matches? Good to see it all begin.
Re: 2013 SOC
Minford used a 3-goal performance in the first half, to open the season with a SOC II win over South Webster.

SW is actually SOC I. Hopefully the injured falcon is not out for the season, but it looked serious.mglight88 wrote:Minford used a 3-goal performance in the first half, to open the season with a SOC II win over South Webster.

They were trying to, but they are also starting a football program and apparently didn't have enough kids for both and football won.goUK wrote:eastern not have a team anymore?
Re: 2013 SOC
Interesting that at this point in time the schools that are soccer only have not had more success against schools that have both football and soccer. I would have thought this gap would have narrowed given "all" their athletes play soccer. Not sure why this is the case? Any thoughts?
Re: 2013 SOC
Based on the current enrollment numbers, the average number of boys in the schools with football is 186, compared to 70 in the non-football schools (these numbers would not include the current freshmen). If you take away 50 kids for football, that still leave nearly double the number of available boys in each school. Granted, a high percentage of the best athletes do play football, but those schools do have a lot more to choose from than the smaller schools. Also, I think you have to consider open enrollment as a factor. I think there is likely quite a few kids who change schools away from Clay, New Boston and South Webster to play football. Probably a lot of these open enrollment changes happen before junior high and aren't really noticed by the time kids make it to high school. Just my .02....

Not to mention, if you a good athlete, you can play both sports with no complications. A.K.A Minford graduate Eli Parkes, who participated in Football and Soccer during the fall, basketball in the winter and tennis in the spring.

Correct me if I'm wrong wasn't he all state in 3 of the 4. He was a outstanding athlete in my opinion one of the best to come thru these parts in awhile, wish he would have stayed teaching and coaching at West.mglight88 wrote:Not to mention, if you a good athlete, you can play both sports with no complications. Re: 2013 SOC
I don't think either SOC team should have a problem winning those games, but sometimes the longer bus rides takes a little out of the kids. Both Chesapeake and Alexander are struggling this year, but playing on their field makes it a little harder. Valley could have a little delima with Romanello though. The play at 10am tomorrow at Chesapeake and he kicks for the football team who plays in Columbus tomorrow at 6:00. It could be a little bit of a struggle to make it back in time....

Re: 2013 SOC
Big week in the SOC next week. The last 2 unbeaten teams play Tuesday when Burg travels to Minford and then Waverly travels to Minford on Thursday. These 2 games will go a long way in deciding who takes home the SOCII trophy this year.
Tuesday also has South Webster @ New Boston and Valley @ Clay in the SOCI.
