I don't see how a coach can let that happen against any team, let alone a first year program that is trying to establish excitement for a new program

Karma is a devilish mistress. Also same coach responsible for ineligible player costing his team conference.

OHSAA needs a mercy rule for soccer. Game should be stopped once a team goes up by more than 10 goals in second half.*

Can’t completely disagree with you when you see this.

Absolutely shameful by the coach. Very discouraging to NEW team/kids trying to learn the game.

I agree there should be some sort of mercy rule in the second half to prevent this type of thing from happening. But at the same time, what is worse, getting beat that bad or the other team just playing "keep away" the whole half and kids getting frustrated and might not touch the ball all half? At least this way they could work on kick offs? No real good way to play it if you ask me. But def agree that 20 goals is ridiculous. Hopefully they at least had to make a minimum number of passes or reversed the field X amount of times before a shot. If they kept starters in and kept attacking, that's wrong. What was the score at half? I have not kept up with soccer since I stopped playing, how new of a program is Wellston?

That's the point of the mercy rule. Game ends immediately once a team goes up 10 goals. Eliminates bs scores of 20-1. Only way you'd have to play keep-away is if your team got a 9-goal lead and you decide you just want your team to get the extra game experience/practice instead of going for the game-ending 10th goal.
I'm still surprised that this hasn't become a rule with OHSAA as most other high school sports have some type of mercy rule. Somebody in coaches' association should be pushing for it as these type of scores do not accomplish anything for all teams involved*

like I said, I agree, there needs to be something in place so these scores don't happen. I guess I was just asking, since there isn't anything in place, what should teams do to prevent this? What is a good number to stop "attacking"?
