Coaches attire
Khakis and a polo shirt would be fine when volleyball starts, because it's still hot. But, if you're a coach you have to remember that you are representing your school and athletic programs. This means that you shouldn't wear denim. Dress pants, khaki pants, polo shirt, shirt and tie, etc, would be more acceptable attire.

...and this topic started with a discussion of the state tournament...not an ordinary, regular season contest...we are talking about a motel room...no long bus ride right before the game...the biggest stage of the year...thousands of spectators...TV...cameras...college scouts...and still some have no clue what "within reason" might mean...
yes it is the state championships, but what team including their coaches changes the way they play, warm up, dress, and other pregame rituals when reaching the championship game. Its a coaches job to keep their calm in this amazing setting of a championship game. coaches tell their players that it is just another game. Today is super bowl sunday, do we really think coach belichick is going to stray from his cut up hoodie? The coaches have gotten their teams this far, by earning the respect of their players. The way the coaches dresses doesnt matter to the players and it doesnt effect the game play.

Re: Coaches attire
i am not saying that male coaches should wear shirt and tie/suit or that female coaches should wear a dress but..... doesn't a coaches job go beyond winning and losing? It is amazing to listen to some of you posting on this thread. Obviously, to some of you, winning is the only thing that matters. Coaches dressing professional is part of the job of teaching young kids. JMO but i dont see why a coach can't put on a pair of khakis (pants or shorts either one) and polo shirt. i could even live with a school tshirt.
the motto of today's society... do whatever you want.... just win baby!
could this have anything to do with why we have the Chris Henrys, Jose Cansecos and Rae Curuths?

i am not suggesting that they "change" the way they dress for the state tourny. it should be how they dress the entire season.
just win baby........ who gives a rats behind about ANYTHING else.

Re: Coaches attire
Who cares what a coach is wearing. Players do not respect their coaches because of what they wear. Coaches are not recognized by the state because of their attire, they are recognized for their success. By success I do not mean just winning. It is the coaches duty to teach their players to respect the game, respect authority and winner or lose with class. It does not take a coach wearing a suit to do this. Like I said before some of the best coaches in the world wear hoodies. If a coach is teaching his or her players to play the game and be respectful young ladies who cares if the coach chooses to wear jeans instead of slacks.

go ahead and say it, you know you want to..... just win baby. nothing else matters.

your right bad example BUT why is it bad to win??? We play the game to win. Find a coach, player, school or parent who does not want a team to do their best and get a W. The difference between a good and bad coach isnt his or her attire. It is his or her ability to teach the players the game and to win or lose with class. Coaches are fired or not rehired because of the performance on the court. You rarely hear of a coach being let go because of their attire it is because of their win lose record or performance in the tournament. So yes it is about winning....but it is how you win and lose.

Re: Coaches attire
am i detecting a slight change of opinion here? seriously now, a coaches dress doesn't have anything to do with their ability to coach or winning games but.... do you consider sweat pants or jeans proper coaching attire. what is wrong with a coach looking "professional"? What is wrong with school district/principal/ad having their coaches dress in a professional manner?
let me throw this question out there to you.... What are the responsibilities of a head coach? asst coach?

Coaches are still a representative of a school, and representatives of schools, in my opinion, should dress professionally. A teacher might be the best teacher around, but are you going to tell me that it would be considered OK for that teacher to come to school in shorts and a T-shirt. Appearance does matter. If it didn't we would never have dress codes for teachers or students.

never heard of a "coach" getting fired for violation of dress code, probably because there isnt any formal code. topic says coaches attire, please stick to topic.

I agree with this part. What's up with the girls wearing spandex. They shouldn't wear it.

Ok fine you think coaches should dress professionally.....i guess thats your opinion.....i disagree in that coaches and I even think teachers should be able to dress in jeans and a school shirt to coach or teacher in.
Why are you questioning spandex??? They are the norm in women's volleyball. As a former player, I played in shorts similar to bball shorts and then in spandex and I will say spandex are much better to play in.

Ok since when do people go to games to criticize the coaches' attire?? What are we the fashion police? Let them wear what they want it's not like it affects the game.

Women's volleyball it's ok to wear spandex. Why make girls wear it? I know some girls won't tryout for volleyball because of spandex. I think basketball players run and jump more than volleyball players. Why don't they wear spandex?
You stated spandex is better, Can you tell me why? I can't think of one reason.
High school girls go through enough pressure in school without putting them in spandex. Every girl I see playing in spandex is always pulling on them. My daughter likes shorts better.
