vballsoccer178... I agree that Minford didn't pose a major threat in the third game, I was merely pointing out that Webster fell behind early... A lot of subbing from the Webster coach to let everybody play was good. The game on the 13th will be the true test of two good teams.

Thursday, September 8th

Waverly @ Oak Hill
Wheelersburg @ South Webster
Minford @ Northwest
Valley @ West

Big game of the Night: Wheelersburg @ South Webster----Burg has split with Waverly and Valley while South Webster has arrived undefeated but untested in the league.
After this game Burg will get the benefit of playing the bottom of the table for the next 3 or 4.

If Webster wins then it really sets up the game on the 13th vs Waverly as you expect Waverly to be 4-0 at that point. If Burg wins, then they are right back in the championship hunt.

Last year these two teams finished 1-2 in the league as Burg went 14-0 and Webster went 11-3 (losses to Burg in 3 and in 5, and to Valley in 5)......Burg lost 5 seniors to graduation from that team and Webster lost 0 seniors from last year.

Waverly beat Jackson in all 6 or 7 games they played in a scrimmage at Waverly. Most games were 25-15ish....kept a couple closer later in the scrimmage.

Jackson always gives us fits though----and playing them in the middle of our 2 conference rivals leads me to believe they will give us all we want once again.

Thank you to all the contributors on this thread! Please give game results if you can tonight! Hopefully I will be posting about a Webster win later tonight, but will still post scores if those Pirates get us!

Well at SW will be Jackson's 5th road game out of 6 on the season.....but so far 3-0 against not great competition.

HItops: The game was at Webster-----and since travel is minimal in our league I believe that home court means little in Volleyball. Does anyone think home court means much in high school volleyball? (not being sarcastic---just wondering if I am the only one who thinks this way) The only time I think it makes a difference is if the travel is lengthy.

To be honest, Burg was never in the game. There is definitely a height difference and South Webster received serve well and passed well. If South Webster passes the ball well they are hard to beat. Our passing in the first 2 games against Eastern was embarrassing and I believe the girls learned a lot from it.

And by the way----if I knew you better I would give you a hard time for asking where the game was........about 5 posts above it tells you as the schedule shows where all 4 games were played tonight! Thanks for the updates on Valley! We are only missing the Northwest vs Minford score for tonight and hopefully we will have it before the next update is due.

I don't think home court has much to do with a win anymore. A few years back, when Eastern and Clay where both having excellent seasons, they each won on the road. So it doesn't really mean too much. I think the traveling crowds come tournament time plays a factor, depending on the size and if students show up for a pep section.

HItops: I will see you saturday and yes we have sat many times in the same rec facility----good luck to your daughter this year!

Notes from the first two weeks:

South Webster and Waverly have not dropped a game yet---both 12-0 in games in their 4 wins......South Webster has not given up more than 18 points in any 1 game (minford)......the top 3 teams have yet to play each other as Webster plays Waverly and Valley next week........Burg has undergone a complete overhaul with basically an entire new line-up and coaching staff---it was nice to see that their fans were very enthusiastic and supportive last night despite the result at Webster---they will be back and don't count them out later in the year-----nice win for Minford last night vs Northwest and now that Coach B is retired at Wheelersburg I am betting that Judy Bayes has coached more varsity games at Northwest than the other 7 league coaches combined!-----If you remember the SOC all-star game at the end of the season and how many seniors the SOC2 had competing (it was the most I can remember---at least 15) you could have known the league might be a little down overall this year as most teams are very young---this year the all-star team from SOC2 will struggle to find enough seniors to field a line-up!

Tuesday, September 13th

Waverly @ South Webster
Wheelersburg @ Minford
Northwest @ West
Oak Hill @ Valley

4-0 Waverly invades 4-0 South Webster on Volley for the Cure night in South Webster..........Waverly had a great weekend defeating Southeastern and Clay to extend their overall record to 7-0.......South Webster went 2-1 at the Unioto tourney losing to Washington Court House and defeating Valley and Dayton Carroll to run their record to 6-2.....South Webster swept this match-up last year winning in 5 at Waverly and then in 3 at South Webster........Should be a good one!

Tonight's game will show a lot from Waverly and SW. We will either know if...
1) Waverly is worth the hype and can make an SOC run and deep tournament run.
2) SW is going to pull it together after a somewhat disappointing weekend and handle one of the top SOC teams.

Either way, both these teams are great, just which one is better?

Not surprising. Waverly is very all-around solid. Impressive start to the season.
