So by process of elimination, Ironton would be 9th.

To put Zanesville's championship into perspective:
* This is the FIRST winning season in school history. The best ever was 11-11 in 1982. Second-best was 10-11 in 1997. Third-best was last year's 9-11.
* This is only the SECOND "championship" the school has won. They have one sectional title since it became a varsity sport in 1974.
* Coming into this season, the program's ALL-TIME winning percentage was less than .200.
* There was a five-year-stretch in the late 1980s when the program was 4-96 -- four single-win seasons and one oh-fer.

Way to go, Lady Devils!

Have not been around the area much until recently. This has to be the lowest finish for Warren in over a decade?

Well, Warren does like to be in the league title game,

but we had our chance and blew a 14 point lead in a clinching game.
In the past, and sectionals, districts, etc. are more important than a league title, anyway, because they lead somewhere.

Let's go Blue! against Jackson tomorrow night! Start time is 6 PM.

I am kind of ignorant about volleyball, so how successful has Warren been at Sectionals and Districts?

I can't remember a Warren team winning districts, though I think they won a sectional championship last year or the year before.

I can't remember if we won sectionals last year or not...

but, Warren doesn't tend do as well after league as we would like.
And that holds true for most sports (except track)

Congrats to the Lady Warriors and their coaches on a fine season.
We really overachieved based on expectations. Few teams can lose 5 or 6 starters and have as successful a season as the Warriors acheived.

Go Blue!

Warren has won District Championships, in fact a few points away from state, and has been in some district finals. Once they re-did the regionals where they send one southeast district team to play three Cincy teams in the regionals they have not been as successful, nor has any D2 southeast team. Wish they went back to the old way and sent the southeast district winner (one or two) to play the east district winners (like other sports).

You are right wizard. I may not be totally correct but I think Warren got to districts last year then lost to Circleville. The two previous years they got to district semis or finals and lost to Court House. I believe it was 1999 when Mandy Goin was ther that Warren made it to the Regionals and the Top 8. That's when regionals was played at Meadowbrook. Now if you happen to get out of districts youve got a team like Roger BAcon or Alter to get through. It's been quite a few years since WArren lost the first game of sectionals.

It's still no reason to be jumping ship on the program.

Not jumping ship, just answering a question from above.

The girls had a nice year. They played better than their final results but that is what happens sometimes.

Will be interesting next year, critical positions with no varsity experience. Work hard this spring and summer.

i think a very good setter will be key. it is the most underdeveloped position in SE ohio. one of the key reasons our teams dont play well out of this area. training a setter takes a LOT of work by players and coaches, and a LOT of knowledge.

btw-roger bacon has been D3 for the last two years. they do have a very good program

I agree h2o. Very crucial position.

I also know Bacon has been D3 the past two years but from '06 on they were always the powerhouse team anyone from this area had to face in D2.

WHSwarrior, no jumping ship here. Only listing some facts on the program. What a good year for the team and they have nothing to be ashamed of. Brenna and Hannah will bemissed.

Agreed, both about our seniors and the GREAT need to really develop a setter.

There has been a lot of talk through the Warrior program the past few days about it, from moving up JV players to rotating setters to bringing in the current 8th graders to moving a varsity middle over.

The best thing: our current JV, freshmen, and upcoming setters ALL hit the club courts and keep working. They've all showed promise throughout the season, but now, the promise has to transition to results. And club is a great way to do that.

The talent's all there, and we're still in solid shape for '09 and beyond.

Go Blue!
