Host Gallipolis defeated Jackson 11-1 Friday evening on Memorial Field to improve its season record to 7-2 and Southeastern Ohio Athletic League South Division record to 5-1.
Jackson, defending league champions, dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in South Division action.
Junior Kruize Wandling pitched a five hitter and fanned eight in the five-inning mercy victory. Wandling walked three. Anthony Malone started for Jackson. He gave up two runs in the first inning and was charged with the loss. Stephen Long relieved him in the second inning. Both JHS hurlers gave up 11 runs on 11 hits. Both teams had two errors apiece.
In the first inning, GAHS took a 2-0 lead off Malone. In the third inning, the Blue Devils plated five runs to take a 7-0 lead. Jackson scored its lone run in the top of the fourth. GAHS tallied four runs in the fifth to end the game.
Bo Whaley’s double was the only extra base hit for GAHS.
Gallipolis will travel to The Plains Saturday for a non-league twinbill against Athens (6-4). The first game will start at 1 p.m.
