Dingess paces 2010 GAHS baseball team

Hits lofty .564 in 24 games, slams three home runs

Kyle Dingess, senior centerfielder/pitcher, led the 2010 Gallia Academy Blue Devils baseball team in eight categories this spring.

Dingess was tops in the following: batting average--.564, hits, 44, doubles, nine, triples, four, home runs, three, runs batted in, 44, slugging percentage, .897 and on base percentage, .625.

Defensively, Dingess had 39 putouts, four assists, two errors for a .956 fielding percentage.

For his efforts, Dingess was named the team’s Most Valuable Player, First Team All-Southeastrn Ohio Athletic League’s South Division squad, the SEOAL’s Most Valuable Player, and All Southeast District First Team. Dingess plans to attend Northern Kentucky University this fall.

Gallipolis finished the 2010 season with a 16-8 overall mark and finished second in the final SEOAL standings with a 7-3 mark after winning the 2010 South Division title with a 7-2 record.

Caleb Warnimont, junior shortstop, finished second in batting with a .402 average in 24 games with 33 hits in 82 at bats. The Devils leadoff hitter led the team in most at bats with 82. Warnimont led the team in runs scored with 40. He tied Dingess with the most doubles (9) and was second with two triples and one homer. Warnimont was third with a slugging average of .598 and third with an on base percentage of .510.

Defensively, Warnamont led the team with 68 assists. He had 19 putouts and made 10 errors for a .897 fielding average. Warnimont was named First Team All-SEOAL (South Division) and All-Southeast District First Team.

Junior outfielder Casey Denbow finished third in team batting with a .400 average in 19 games. Denbow had 16 hits in 40 trips and scored 14 runs. He had five doubles, one homer, and drove in six runs with a team high .600 slugging percentage.

Defensively, Denbow had 10 putouts, one error and a .909 fielding percentage. Denbow was named First Team All-SEOAL (South Division) for his performances.

Junior outfielder/pitcher Tyler Eastman hit .377 in 24 games with 26 hits in 69 trips. Eastman scored 28 runs with two doubles and 18 RBIs. Eastman had a .406 slugging average. He led the team with 23 walks and had an onbase percentage of .543. Defensively, Eastman had 20 putouts, three assists and five errors for a .821 field average. He was named First Team All-SEOAL (South Division) for his achievements.

Senior pitcher John Troester led the squad in pitching wins with six. In 12 games, Troester posted a 6.80 ERA. He had four complete games and recorded 11 saves. In 59.2 innings, Troester gave up 90 hits, allowed 74 runs, (58 earned), fanned 49 and walked 39.

Senior Chuck Calvert, in 35.2 innings, was 2-2 on the year. Calvert had a 3.93 ERA. He had four saves and hurled two complete games with one shutout. Calvert allowed 42 hits, 24 runs (20 earned) and recorded 42 strikeouts and walked 22.
