How's things coming at the Eastman Sports Complex at GAHS?

Post by jottings »

How's things coming at the Easstman Sports Complex at GAHS in Centenary?

Doesn't look like they've touched the new tennis courts or track since school let out last May. Also, lots of idle machines sitting around the complex. Will this outfit have the new complex completed by spring? It sure don't look like it now. What a shame.

Maybe the school board should "fire" the outfit that is late getting the job done and hire a firm "that will have a change of direction."

Dave Tawney, longtime GAHS athletic booster and former GAHS Athletic Boosters president (1982-1986) and a photographer of Blue Devil football games since 1962 (for 13 GAHS grid coaches) will be inducted into the GAHS Athletic Hall of Fame this weekend.

While Dave was Booster president, he was instrumental in expanding baseball, softball and football facilities on Memorial Field.

During his term, the football field received new lights for the first time in years, a new storage building was constructed, new baseball and softball dugouts were built, and he was in charge of starting the "200 Club" to help Blue Devil and Blue Angle athletes.

Too bad we don't have that kind of individual pushing for the completion of the new Eastman Athletic Complex at the new school in Centenary. If you've ever engaged Dave on a project, you'd know what I'm talking about. He just didn't take no for an answer.

Just a quick update - the spring sports should all be played on a completed Eastman Athletic Complex. As of Saturday work was being performed on the baseball and softball fields. The tennis courts are basically complete and the
track is close. I am told they will be ready .... FINALLY!!

Thanks. What about parking at the new facility? Wonder if they will allow lawn chairs along the sidelines at the new field?

Parking will be on the lot outside the gym which will also be the future football parking
there will be a driveway and cultisak ( spelling?) for drop off of elderly and handicapped at the baseball field area. There bleachers there now but limited seating. As for lawn chairs , it appears there is plenty of room along sidelines and other areas but I do not know the policy of approoved locations. Scoreboards, backstops etc were due to be put up at anytime.

Work continues at the complex - even in cold weather they have been putting in conduit for scoreboards etc. --- track and tennis court surfaces appear finished. backstops and some other minor work still need done on baseball and softball fields--

they missed a bunch of nice days and are now out there in the cold-go figure- but no consistency to their work schedule... just so its done by March... !!!!

Bluedevilfan6...In just 67 more days, the 2011 high school baseball-softball seasons will get underway...Was out there this morning. What a mess. Looks like they haven't got wire up for the backstops. Lots of loose ends around both the softball and baseball diamonds.

Unless we have some good weather between now and then, we my have to postpone home tennis, softball-baseball and track seasons until a later date.

Those projects should have been completed several months ago.

The Board and mr Payton are well aware of my feelings on completion of the complex. Perhaps if more fans would voice their concerns DIRECTLY , there would be more actions. As I've posted earlier, many a good day has been wasted while all the construction effort has gone on in kanauga !! What a shame, we should have been playing out there last year!!! No wonder the donations are NOT pouring in .....

In just 43 more days, the 2011 spring sports season will begin.

Will Gallia Academy's Eastman Sports Complex be ready for use by then? Hope so. Understand we have several home track meets scheduled along with tennis matches, baseball and softball games.

If those facilities are not ready, do they have a Plan B at GAHS? Sure hope so.

In just 37 more days, the 2011 spring sports season will get underway. Will the new Eastern Sports Complex be finished in time for this years activities?

We've had some good weather the past few days. Wonder if they've been able to get some more work done out there? We'll have to check it out this weekend as the regular basketball campaign winds up in the Centenary gym.

Blue Devil baseball, softball, track, and tennis fans should make it a point too check the new facilities out this weekend.
If workers can't get the job done in time, hope they have a "plan B" to fall back on.

See where that construction outfit is going to get South Gallia's football project done by August. Hope the county board was smart enough to have a penalty clause in case they don't get the job done on time.

Just 30 more days until the 2011 spring sports season gets underway. Will all the spring sports facilities be ready at Gallipolis by then?

Tony C of WSAZ-TV Channel 3 said the other day that we're gonna have a wet cold spring this year. Understand they've got electric ready for the softball field, but not the baseball diamond. They may use a generator for the scoreboard this spring.

Also understand the outfield grass on the baseball field is not satisfactory, but playable, and the track lines need to be redone. Hopefully, the tennis courts will be ready by this time next month.

Walkways to the facilities from the main parking lot will not be completed, but understand a base gravel walkway will be used and then the walkway will be paved after ths spring sports season is over.

Saw in the paper where South Gallia and River Valley have started construction on their new football stadiums. Looks like they are pretty well organized on their fund raising. Gallipolis has been working on its football field for three or four years, but is still far away from getting its grid project underway.

Just 23 more days until the 2011 spring sports season opens.

Checked Memorial Field this afternoon and the old baseball and softball field, along with the old GAHS track were under about four feet of Chickamauga Creek flood water.

Will the new facilities be ready on time for the 2011 campaign?

How many scrimmage games will GAHS have prior to the 2011 season opener? Better still, has anybody got a 2011 Blue Devil schedule? Thanks.
