I agree 100%. Not many HS players can hit .700 over the length of a season unless errors turn into hits. A solid HS hitter should be able to hit somewhere between .400 and .500 (maybe a bit above .500) over a season and will be looked at to play college ball. Anything over .500 is a very solid performance.

I could see an OB% of .700

He did not hit .700

Sometimes the posts I read on here amaze me. And I can tell you this, although Brandon Russell won the award in 05, a Pirate player should have had it in '06 (White and/or Storey) and '07 (Wamsley and/or Russell). I wouldn't think there would be any doubt about a Pirate getting it this season either.

I know in '06, the mere presence of Brandon White behind the plate changed the way ALL teams played against the Burg. Also, if John Storey didn't have atleast 3 hits, it was an off game for him.

In '07 Wamsley and Russell did the same things they are doing now. That is/was domination on the mound and offensive numbers as well.

Guess we'll see. :-D

And as Vols said earlier, however nice it would be to be named the POY for one of these guys, a State Title I can guarantee would be much, much nicer.

I know this may stir up a stink but it is a shame that some of the good players in the area do get left out in the all conference selections. Not sure of the total numbers selected for both 1st and 2nd team but there should really not be a limit IMO. The area coaches are smart enough to decide who deserves these awards for the past season based upon performance, work ethic, attitude and leadership.

Burg has a legit 5 or 6, really more that one could say based upon their numbers deserve an all conference award.
Minford also has 5 or 6 solid players
Waverly 4 or 5
Valley 3 or 4
West 2 or 3
Northwest 2 or 3
South Webster 2 or 3
Oak Hill 2 or 3

IMO the All Conference awards could have up to 30 players in the area receive an award.

I would bet both those boys from wheelersburg would trade POY for a state title
the team means more than the personal award.

IMO that is entirely too many. This would never fly, but the all conference team should be exactly that and not based on a per capita amount per team. It should be based on stats, committment, integrity, work ethic, and attitude, with no limits per team. There has to be a cut-off somewhere and having a 1st and 2nd team is where it needs to be. No honorable or special mention crap. At the State level, yes, but not at the conference level.

I will say two or three from Oak Hill:
Zach Haislop
Ian Hall
Chase Allman/Bobby Kidd

Catch24, I can't agree with you more. But are the players and the stats being presented?? That is the question.

I'd like to see a voting system with coaches. Ex: 2 catchers, 7 infielders, 6 outfielders and 4 pitchers for first team all league. With these selections a maximum number of 6 from one school could take a spot. However, a player that pitches and plays a position would only be allowed one or the other. It would be best if area coaches helped make the decision rather that a particular coach stating who they will nominate/name all league.

Well, the SOC all-conference team came out in todays paper and congratulations and congrats to all the players who made the first and second team and a special shout out to the Burg players, first teamers Aaron Hopper, Adam Wamsley and Bryan White and second teamers Dustin Cook and Jordan Russell.

Congrats also to Adam Wamsley for being named SOC II player of the year. A well deserving award.

Now to the good stuff. Can someone please explain to me how in the hell is Martin from Minford the SOC II coach of the year? Trust me, I know he is a great coach and a great guy, but someone is going to have to convince me that he is the best coach in the league this year. He lost both matchups to Estep and the Burg and they also lost one other SOC game to Valley, I think. I think that it is a slap to Estep after guiding his team through an undefeated SOC league play and not winning the award that is deservedly his. Someone had told me they had heard this rumor a few weeks ago and I put it out on here and most everyone agreed that if that was true that that was ashame that Estep didn't win it.

What would be funny is that if the Burg can win the state and he is named the coach of the year for the state. What a slap in the face to the people who vote on the league awards. Good enough to be coach of the year of the state, but not your conference. Man I hope that happens.

I agree completely. How does a coach that loses 3 league games, two by a combined score of 38-4 to the league champs, get the Coach Of The Year nod???? Like Yabba said, Martin is a great coach, and from what I've been he's also a great guy, but he was NOT the best coach in the league this year. Something else I don't understand is how is the leagues best picther in Jordan Russell not on the 1st team? How is Daniel Armstrong, who is arguably one of the best, if not the best, catchers in the league not on there? How is Spencer Hall, how is without a doubt one of the best clutch hitters I have ever seen as a DH not on there?.

I know they have to be politically correct and put someone on from each team, but to give Martin COY, not include Russell on the first team, and not include these other boys is a joke and the area coaches should be ashamed of themselves for letting it occur. If Michael Estep isn't the best coach in the SOC, or the district for that matter, then I'll kiss your rearend on the coner of Main street at high noon.
