You have to throw Bryan Delong in there no questions asked....In my opinion in the running for the best pitcher in the TVC not only the Ohio!

Ashton Packard. Ive never seen Cline but have heard alot. I however have seen Delong. All he has is a good fastball and its as straight as a nail. Packard's slider is as hard to hit as ive ever seen. Ask the Meigs players. They'll know what im talking about. He has some control isues at times but other than that is will be dominant this year.

Delong only has a fastball?...Didnt seem to have a problem winning back to back TVC titles

And Packard wont be domintate if he has control issues!

All three of these guys will make some noise in the TVC. Packard from what I have seen doesn't have control problems but I haven't seen every game he has pitched. Packard throwing a little side arm has a sneaky fast fastball and a nasty slider. Delong has a good fast ball and off speed, you just don't get to see it much because he doesn't have to use it. You can get away with just throwing fastballs against some teams around here and when he has to he'll throw his off speed pitches. The teams he can throw his fastball bye he should, no need to get fancy just throw heat its his bread and butter pitch. Cline I hope gets to pitch more this season. He is such a good infielder that Athens cannot afford to put him on the mound, that was the case last year. I never have seen him in a game but helped do evaluations for legion and he was the most impressive off the hill. Hard fastball, nice off speed and just looked real comfortable. When these three are going to pitch, try to get out and watch. Good luck this season.

Grillo from VC has great stuff. Doesn't really blow you away with every pitch but he can when he needs too, but his junk that he throws will have you out on your front foot looking stupid all night, just ask Nelsonville he threw a CG there last year and the last batter looked just as stupid as the first. When make contact you either hit a dribbler of pop it up. Dutcher from VC is also coming around, probably VCs hardest thrower.

I wish the best for Ashton he is a great competetior. sp? He is a great wrestler I have not had the chance to see him play baseball but I guess I will have to go and watch him when Belpre comes to N-Y. We missed him at the All-Star meet.

Belpre used 5 pitchers in a scrimmage Mon. against Wirt Co.(Tate, Watkins, Nester,Logue, and Packard) I thought they all did well for their first outing.

About six years ago, Mason had a LL kid named Zuspen who was a pitcher.

Gallipolis Reds had him down 1-0 in the Syracuse tourney, but in the bottom of the seventh, he hit a two-run homer to edge Gallipolis 2-1 and remain unbeaten in 20 some games.

I saw in Monday or Tusday's Tribune where a Zuspen kid hurled Wahama to a victory. Was that the same Zuspen?

Athens ... Should boast a pretty descent pitching staff ... What may favor the dogs is - if it happens to rain a lot and games start getting bunched up - Athens will be in great shape cause they have four pitchers that are all pretty good ... (1) CLINE (Will in fact be pitching more this year; the shortstop dilema im sure Gibby has worked out so he can get his no. 1 guy on the mound)
(2)DOUG CHAPMAN, (3) DANIEL GILLESPIE and (4) DEAN MAFFIN.

For a team that went 10-13 last year, but has almost everyone back including kids that have been playing and starting for 2 and 3 years now, Gibby might just have his best team since 04 or 05 when they had HEWITT & GREGORY and that bunch.

I seriously would not be surprised if Athens was able to somehow win a league title in their very first year competing the TVC-Ohio ... BUT ... I'm not counting on it or expecting them to win it, there is a lot of good teams with some real good pitchers in the league so a lot can happen ... I just wouldn't be surprised if Athens, which has a lot of experience, talent and pitching depth was able to pull it off.

yeah Slone did pitch us a no hitter and Grillo only gave up one hit. it was a very good game though. Wellston won 1 to 0.
