Re: Belpre Eagles baseball 2009
Well I hope the school gets the fence fixed on the high school field the center field fence is completly broke. The school hasn't put a dime in that field. It has all come from the Youth League. The youth league put over $3500 dollars of dirt and and other stuff on that field. Not one school employee was there to help only the head coach and several youth league parents and board members doing the work. Youth League will not fix the fence. It is in the High Schools hands. They want to put thousands of dollars in the high school track that only has 1 or 2 meets a year. That is a bunch of bull. High School ask to use the field at the park years ago and the agreement was they had to maintain the field durning their season and they have fell way short of that responsibility. School Board needs to step it up. Maybe somebody will want to play there one day and be there before the high school team shows up...now what ... it is a public park can't run them off.
Putting money in that track is not the primary problem right now. You run 2 meets there a year and you want to pour THOUSANDS of dollars into iit. Usually one of the meets gets rained out. But you continue to allow them to run tractors over the track with nail drags behind them and continue to let the janitors that mow the football field to run the riders over the track and blow huge loads of grass all over it.

Don't believe he is going to play baseball,He is leaning toward AAU basketball. No way he can do both.
Re: Belpre Eagles baseball 2009
otterslide...take you complaints elsewhere. This thread is about the boys, not your rants.
Good luck to the team. Good pitching can take you a long way during the high school season.
Looking forward to watching the team play this season.

That issue is about the team. You want a field to play on? Well if you go down there right now there is now way the team could play on that field.

Thats because the league, who used the field last in 2008, did nothing to winterize the field. You prepare the field in the fall for next spring.
The coaches and boys can spend a little time each day to get the field ready. I know, because we did that when I played and it didn't hurt our performance on the field. Best record in school history. The team went to the Regional finals the next year.
Stop by anytime and see me. The door is also open and people are always welcome.

Mr. B,
See you don't listen. You only hear what you want. The Centerfield fence is completly broken down. I mean to the ground there are 4-8 poles of the fence that has been broken.
What does that have to do with you winterizing the field and having the best record. It is hard to winterize the field with all those Canada Geese. I tell you what you tring to say we don't take care of the field....your gonna really tick some people off. I have never seen you do a lick of manual labor!!

When my kids played there, both baseball and softball, I put my time in on the fields. I umpired games, never took any money even though I was a licensed official through OHSAA and I helped coach their teams. I dragged the fields and lined them before games. I also went down in the spring and helped clean up the fields, pulled weeds, raked and removed leaves. You weren't involved in Belpre Baseball when I was. I haven't seen you do a lick of work down there either. Why? Because I am not involved now when you are and you weren't involved when I was. Grow up.
Winterizing the fields means plugging the infield grass, reseeding and backfilling with sand so it will be smooth in the spring. Taking down the black wind screen on the outfield fence so it doesn't put a strain on the fence when the wind blows during the winter and catches the screen like a sail and pulls the fence down like it has. The fence is 40 years old and it won't last forever.
I was on the field early this afternoon and walked the whole field. The outfield fence has been pushed down by the wind. The black wind screen is blown over into the rightfield corner. It should have be taken down after the summer and put up somewhere. The coach can get the boys to clean up the pine cones in the outfield. Rake the dirt when the mud dries up. Clean out the dugouts etc.
I was sympathic to the problems down there after walking the field, but after reading your post, why should I care?
Maybe you could get better results if you approached people in a different manner, but going to the Athletic department or the Boosters and saying, "you need to give us 5 grand to fix the fence or else" turns people off.
I realize not many folks put in time down there, heck, the Adams practically ran it themselves for years.
Lets find a solution instead of taking an argument to the internet.
From now on otterside, talk to me in person.

This is good. It can help the program out greatly to get the JV team back.

This would be a great way for those freshmen to get their feet wet. It is hard for 14 year olds to play against 17 & 18 year olds. It is a big jump from pony league to varsity. Sitting the bench in a varsity game doesn't make you better, playing in a JV game will.
Hopefully, we will have enough to field both JV and varsity and get 10 or 12 JV games in.
