Good luck to the Pirates. Tough ballgame today with a few controversial calls that went in 'burgs favor. Great game with 2 very good teams playing. Nice to see a SOC team in the final 4. Good luck at State.

Re: Burg vs. Adena
Awesome game!!!
Adam Wamsley was lights out on the mound today and had a couple really nice hits at the plate. He had some awesome strike outs in crucial situations and none more crucial than the one to end the game with the tieing run on base. Nice hitting today to get some crucial runs in and Nick Kempers 2 out single in the 7th to get home the 4th run was huge. Spencer Hall continues to do his journeymans job at the plate. Aaron Hopper crushed one that I thought for sure was going out, but just stayed in the park. Excellent all around effort by the entire team. Everyone contributed something today whether it was a nice hit at the dish or an awesome defensive play in the field. Now it's on to Cooper Stadium and the Final 4. I think the boys are very focused on the task at hand and know excatly what it's going to take to get the job done. Just like today when they were down by 2 after the first inning and there wasn't a hint of panic in any of them. They just knuckled down and got the job done, which is the sign of a very confident and highly motivated team.
Nice job all around and kudos to the boys and the coaching staff on getting it done.

WOW what a game. Wamsley was awsome ont the mound even when they tried to slow him down. Cook made play after play in centerfield. Kemper as a sub did his job at the plate 2-3 2RBI's and scored a run. And Armstrong had another great game behind the plate. The whole TEAM did outstanding.... Another big congrats to coach Mike Estep, you knocked that big monkey off your back. NOW ON TO STATE!!!!
The Burg had a nice crowd, lets get behind them and all make the 2hour trip to Columbus

You sit in that staduim and you watch 4 great teams battle it out over 2 days and all of a sudden you realize the games over and you won what a team from battling all day yesterday with quite bats to today with great defense and great pitching you just felt it was Wheelersburgs day. The drive to Columbus will be sweeter than its ever been. Keep up the great defense and strong pitching and never quit battling and the prize will be yours.. We are all proud of each and everyone of you on the team you all play a huge part in the success don't stop believing in each other. Watch out Hamiltin Badin the Burgs on their way.........

Re: Burg vs. Adena
Neither Adena or Indiana Valley have anything to hang their heads about. They battled and battled well.
I wish I could have listened to more of the games--heck, I wish I could have been at the games.

Congrats to the Pirates on a couple of hard fought victories. Now it is on to Columbus and the final four.
What is the saying, defense wins championships. Well i think that was definetly the saying that would have to be used in this game today for the Burg. They seemed to make play after play when they needed it.
Good luck boys. Bring home the hardware.

What a great game! Two teams once again giving it there all until the last pitch was thrown. Burg got down early and kept there composure. There is a reason why they have the record they do. Not anyone can get down 2-0 in the first inning and stay as calm as they were and battle back to get it 2-1, and eventually 3-2. Then when they needed that extra insurance run they came through to go up 4-2. Adena made there run one last time but fell just short. Congrats to the Burg on a great victory. Also congrats to Adena on a magnificant season and ending the year at #1 in the polls.
To get to state you got to be good, but you also have to have a little bit of luck. Burg had a little luck today and they came through on top. Congrats

What a great HS baseball game and atmosphere at the VA. We are so blessed to have a facility like this to play our regional games in.
These teams were so evenly matched it was scarey but that is what you see at this point in the tourney. Solid pitching, solid defense and great clutch hitting. My hats off to Adena on a great season and hard fought baseball game. These were truely the best 2 D3 teams in SE ohio that provided the fans an outstanding and exciting regional final baseball game.
Wamsley had a solid performance on the mound and throwing 9 innings in 2 days. Armstrong had another solid game behind the plate as well which does not get the credit but is a huge key in these big games. The Burg bats heated up and several nice hit balls on the day. The defense was solid and made the plays when they needed to. Everyone contributed at some point with timely hits, sac bunts to advance the runners or big defensive plays. Key hits by Wamsley, Kemper and Hopper proved to plate enough runs to make the difference. I too thought Hoppers ball to LF was going out but just not enough carry to get there (I guess he needs to get to the weightroom ) but plated Wamsley for the go ahead run. Cook and Hopper both took the ball deep to LCF gap with these being caught by nice plays from the CF to run these balls down.
Burg has been on a mission since the loss to ZT in the distircts last season. They have work so hard to get to this point from playing summer and fall ball to the extra time spent at the baseball field on weekends. The team chemistry and support they show each other is outstanding. Now onto Columbus as your mission is not over.
TO THE PLAYERS: You are a great group of young men and I just want to say it is an honor for my son to be a part of and play with such a great group. You are a part of something special that only a few get to experience in HS and a lifetime. You have built relationships and memories with each other that will also last a lifetime.
Continue to stay focused, believe in yourselves, support each other and you will realize your dream. BELIEVE and GO PIRATES!

Re: Burg vs. Adena
All I can add is AMEN!
I too am privileged to have a son on this team. I know the hard work and dedication these kids have put in, not only this year but through the years. These young men have spent a lot of cold days at the LL field or high school field working on their game during the offseason with dads throwing bp or hitting balls.
Best of luck to the men in orange and black at state.

On this blog I posted some pictures that my sister took at the game and the semi-final game. At the bottom of each page is an 'older posts' link that you can click to get to the next page. There are some softball and track pictures on there also.

Re: Burg vs. Adena
According to WKKJ, Adena's Collin Uhrig had only pitched 8 innings coming into this game. I'm curious as to why he got the start over one of the regulars. Did the others need rest? Has injury hampered Uhrig which has not allowed him to pitch? From listening to the game, it sounded like he did a great job, but I'm perplexed as to why he got the start in the regional finals with only 8 innings on the hill this season. Congratulations to Adena on a great season. Congratulations to Wheelersburg and good luck next week.

Somebody correct me if im wrong, but there is a limit on how many innings you can pitch in a particular time frame. If this pitcher only had pitched 8 innings all year coming into this game it shows how much quality pitching Adena possesed.
