Burg returns a solid nucleus of players and a decent size senior baseball class. I believe there will be 7 seniors returning but only 2 with significant varsity experience. All Distirct players Hopper and White return along with seniors Montavan, Brown, Boyer, Thomas, and Dyer. Also returning juniors are Elliott, Kemper, Leach, Brandon Hall and Bryce Hall. A few sophomores will make an impact as well with Parsley, Luster and Stegman.

IMO Burg will contend for the SOC once again. Lack of experience will be an issue and it depends how quickly coach Estep gets these kids ready. Pitching depth is also a question. The Pirates return one starter in Elliott who will move to the #1 spot in the rotation. After that several others will have to step up including Hopper, Boyer, Montavan, Kemper, or Leach and possibly Luster or Stegman. All these can throw some innings for the Pirates.

Offensively, Burg should be solid as well. Returning to the heart if the lineup is Hopper in the 3-hole and White in the 4-hole. A good group of solid hitters should provide Coach Estep with enough offense to fill in the remaining spots.

Should be another solid exciting year for the Pirate baseball team.

Did you fall and hit your head? Unless Northwest went out and brought some players in or whoever they get as a new coach can perform Miracles, Northwest will most likely be at the bottom of the SOC II.

The SOC II will be decided by Burg, Waverly, Minford, and possibly Southwebster. Mostly it will come down to the first three mentioned.

i was happy to see someone mention South Webster, i dont think they can make anyone at the top sweat too much, but they will be a team to beat

and i dunno about NW lol. they have a few good players, but, well....they should put up a good fight against notre dame if they play each other :-D

Coach Estep and his staff, which is the best in the area, will once again put another quality team on the field. No doubt in my mind that Wheelersburg will once again be the favorite to win the SOC II and will just plug in the parts and re-load.

Is Coach Estep allowed to do anything with his players this winter as far as conditioning or did the administration once again prevent that from happening? Not bashing anyone, just curious because I know there were some past issues in regards to this situation.

i know that there are rules saying a coach is only alowed so many days durring the winter with the team, but i think that a coach should be allowed to supervise strength training and exercise as much as they want

Coach Estep with the help of Coach Conn has kept Wheelersburg the team to beat in the SOC and in southern Ohio. They do a great job and have since Coach Branon retired. They got some good pitching experience with JJ Marx joining the staff and I read that Andy Heimbach was also going to help out. That staff has a lot of great baseball playing/coaching experience, and I would have to put them at the top in the state. It would be pretty hard to beat a staff like that. But, they don't get all the pats on the back : ) , Wheelersburg just has some amazing talent out there. Wheelersburg is truly a baseball powerhouse in the state. As I said before, I would have to put them at the top until somebody knocks them off.

That's good leadership at the top for the Pirates, that's for sure. Sounds like a Post 23 reunion. Best of luck to Wheelersburg this spring.

Will coach Heimbach help with JV or Varsity- if he coaches JV will he be the head coach or assistant either way it will be a blessing to have him. Should be a win win for the boys and the program.

One OR TWO? Sorry but no one 'wins the league' at number two.
