Portsmouth vs W'Burg 4-2-09

Post by BULDOG »

The Pirates play host to the Trojans this afternoon at W'Burg. The Pirates are coming off a big win against Oak Hill and the Trojans coming off a couple close loses to Ironton and Adena. Should be a good ball game.

Don't think it will be Hopper for the Pirates as he has not thrown much. Probably will see the sophomore Luster or senior Boyer for the Pirates. Game time is 5pm

Good win tonight. Who hit well for the Burg?

I remember Bray as just an 8 yr old. I knew that kid was going to be a player way back then.

Congrats to the Pirates on the big win.

50 runs in three games while only giving up 7.

Very solid defensive game by both squads. Impressed with the young Portsmouth squad, they hit the ball well. All 3 HRs were no doubters.

The Pirates continued to hit well throughout the lineup. Alot of hard hit balls by both teams tonight. Frozen rope doubles in the gaps by Elliott, White, Montavan, Boyer and Hopper were the standout hits on the night. Sophomore Luster pitched 3 1/3 innings and threw pretty well giving up 4 runs I think. The 3 HRs were just young pitching mistakes against good hitters. Robbie Feeman pitched the remaining 3 2/3 and threw very well pitching out of a couple tight jams with runners on 3rd.

Another solid win for the Pirates heading for a huge SOC 2 game on Monday against Waverly.

this was a good game to watch, like posted above both teams played good defense.

Meyers has 3 homers in the last two games, and freshman Adam Bray hit his first.

any word on how bad Kyle Simpson is hurt?, he ran into the fence chasing a fly ball, and left the game and field holding is shoulder.

Rumor at the game was a possible seperated shoulder but not confimed. If possible, someone please post on how the young man is doing.

Portsmouth Dailey Times reports this game as a "POUNDING"

a 4 run game is a pounding???

I didnt see how they reported the win, Burg had against oak hill???

anyway, congrats to Burg,I forgot to put that in my first post, they have a great team.

Don't get me started. If I recall correctly a PDT staff member was at the game.

1st... no it was not a pounding. It was a very well played game.
2nd ...The picture is junior Caleb Leach not senior Justin Boyer (which they called Dustin Boyer in the SW writeup)
3rd... The 2nd Burg pitcher is ROBBIE Feeman not BOBBIE.
4th... I'll stop here but a few other mistakes as well

I wish the PDT would get a clue and spend the time to validate their story. The community and the players deserve more.

I couldn't agree more. As soon as I saw that picture I said that's Leach, not Boyer.

Since we are on the subject of the PDT screwups, how about last weeks write up on Cam Miller where the caption under his photo says, "Miller poses for a mugshot". It was always my understanding that a "mugshot" was what the police take when you are arrested. Maybe they thought it was Nick Aldridges picture.

We are running a clarification for tommorow. The roster provided to the Times had Justin Boyer as No. 4 and Caleb Leach as No. 21.

As for the used of the word pounded, the writer we sent hasn't cover sports since the 1970s. He is an outdoor columnist and news writer helping us out because we're understaffed.

This writer, and the rest of my staff, has a high dedication to accuracy but he is still getting used to covering sports again. I sent out a memo to everyone involved in sports coverage about several issues that will hopefully be corrected immediately.

I just thought the word pounded, was no where close to the way this game was played, both teams played very well, and this game could have went either way
