Athens -14
Vinton County - 1 F/5
Chapman sent a Homer earlier in the Game, and it looked as if his last at-bat would sent the game off in fireworks as his walk-off attempt bounced off the yellow plastic and came back into the field of play...
So a couple batters later, with the bases full of Bulldogs, leading 10-1, it would be Senior Left Fielder Curtis Goldsberry who would deliver. With a great swing, Goldsberry drilled a fastball that just hooked around the "Pesky" Pole in left delievering the great, "Grand Slam Walk-Off Homerun" for Athens to keep them undefeated on the early season.
Daniel Gillespie picked up the WIN for the Dogs...
Coach Gibson and Coach Stewart should be pretty happy with how the Bulldogs are starting to hit the 'ol Baseball...

Quite a change for a Coach Gibson led squad - its usually all about the pitching & defense.
(2 exceptions - The 1990 squad that could pitch with the best of em, but also crush the ball ... And the 2003 team I believe it was [is that right questionmark? Or was it 2002?] ... The team with HEWITT - GREGORY in the three hole & clean-up spot, with little Phil on the mound during the tourney run ... That team could score runs and possesed 3 outstanding pitchers.)
- Not sure if Purdy's team was coached by Gibson or not - I was hangin out in the Florida sun - but I've been told that Athens team was outstanding and could really smack the small ball around.

No change. Athens is still getting excellent pitching. Dan Gillespie picked up his first win, throwing less than 65 pitches in his 6 innings of work and keeping the Vikings off-balance all evening. I will also add that the Bulldogs pitchers are very fortunate to be thowing to D1 prospect catcher Kyle Dean, who assumes great leadership of the guys on the mound.

A Win over Meigs Thursday would really set Athens up nice for another repeat Championship...
A lot of Baseball still left to play, but to get Wins over everyone the 1st time around is definitely a great start towards a League title...Thursday should be a good ball Game when Meigs comes to Athens...
