Did I hear a correct score of 6-2 for Friday's nights District 8 Championship game?
If so, THAT IS FREAKIN AWESOME!
I know I havn't been able to get out to many games this summer - but I know most of them boys - and I couldn't be more proud of them for doing what no other Athens team has been able in quite some time.
BTW ... thx a lot Joe Carbone for getting the State Tournament to leave Athens - and great timing! If it is true, and Athens is heading to the State Tournament - Its a darn Shame they won't be playing here in A-town.

Time to resurrect this thread and get the conversation going again, thanks 93!
The situation is shameful, and Athens city administration ought to be calling out McDavis and his AD for the reported attitude of their coach towards the Legion tournament.
viewtopic.php?f=20&t=68991&start=35It is this kind of stuff that has significant ramifications towards the local economy, yet little, if anything, ever gets reported in the local media about something like this that doesn't impact the university, but impacts the city, and the locals, in a very bad way.

Congrats to the Athens players and coaches. Good luck in the state tournament...
I wish it were taking place in Athens, but may make a game or two nonetheless.

Colton Noftz shook off a line drive to the right knee on Wednesday to come back tonight to shut down the Lancaster Post 11. He pitched all nine innings, striking out the last two hitters of the game. J.D. Chesser hit a grand slam to break open a 2-2 game in the 6th. It was a low line drive that just wouldn't come down. His Dad told me JD told him on the way to the game that he was going to hit a homerun today.
Coach Chadwell and Coach Larry Bean got 7 innings out of Dean Maffin, nine innings out of Tyler Thompson and eleven innings out of Colton Noftz to get three wins. They gave up a total of 7 runs, and I believe only four of them were earned. Great job gentlemen, and good luck at the State Tournament!

CONGRATS TO ALL THE YOUNG MEN OF P21. THEY HAVE DONE A REMARKABLE JOB THIS YEAR. IT IS A SHAME THE STATE WAS MOVED FROM ATHENS. I DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. WHY AND HOW WAS ONE PERSON ABLE TO DO THIS? IT WOULD BE A BOOST TO LOCAL ECONOMY AND CERTAINLY DIDN'T DO ANY HARM TO THE UNIVERSITY. CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW IT TOOK PLACE AS I DON'T KNOW.
CONGRATS TO JD CHESSER ON HIS GRAND SLAM TONIGHT. I HAVE TO ADD THAT BECAUSE I AM HIS VERY PROUD GRANDPARENT!

AWESOME JOB GUYS!
One side not: I remember a quote by Kyle dean during high school baseball season that stated "he wanted to make it to State."
Well, here was his shot - and they did make it - but what happened to Kyle? Why is he not playing this summer? Is he even on the roster? I know DeWane Clark has earned that No. 1 starting catcher job and has had one heck of a summer .... but could Kyle be used as a DH or pinch hitter if he is fact on the roster?
Just a question to ponder.
