What questions should I ask our new baseball coach? Our baseball coach got fired after six years of working at the school and they hired the new coach about a week and a half ago. Today we are basically having a baseball meeting where he is introduced, gives a little speech, and then we can ask him questions. What are some ideas?

Speaking from a Coaches point of view. I think any new Coach would rather have a friendly, "welcoming" environment the first time he is speaking to the parents as a whole. You have plenty of time to ask questions about things after you get to see him interact with the guys for a couple weeks.

All coaches like support of the parents. But no coaches are going to take coaching from the parents.

The fastest way to make a coaches job harder is trying to get involved, and give your two cents. Maybe if you have good baseball knowledge you could join as an assistant, just an idea.

Is it normal for a high school team to play their entire season 16 games in 4 weeks?

hs teams play their 27 game season from March 28 til May 5th

during those 27 games about how many pitches total should a pitcher have an average in a season for high school school ball.

Let me ask another way so you might understand the question.Do you keep pitch counts on your pitchers during a game.?If yes then how many pitches do you let them throw before pulling them?At the end of the season do you total them up and say johny throwed 500 pitches and tim throwed 600 or do you say this high school it don't matter.

I keep a pitch count for the games but I dont worry about total number of pitches for the season. Some kids can handle more pitches the younger the less pitches allowed. It also depends on the type of pitches thrown. Conditioning and Technique very important. Hope this helps.

If they throw more than a thousand. I would say that is over doing it. but I dont keep track of that. Just number of pitches per outing

The research we have seen doesn't break down over the season but focused more pitches per outing and the amount of rest in between pitching. Obviously you need to keep in mind how much they are throwing if they play other positions as well as how demanding that position is on the arm. For example, 3B, SS, C pretty demanding on arm due to number of balls thrown and/or distance of throws. For a 14 year old pitcher, they recommend capping their pitch count in an outing at 95 pitches and then that pitcher should have 5 days off from pitching. It's a scale that looks at pitch ranges and that dictates how many day(s) rest until they throw again. Our chart showed if a pitcher threw 25 pitches or less then he could go out and throw the next day. If he threw 26 to 45 pitches then we sat him for 2 days and on up.
