Gallipolis downs River Valley, 14-3

Visiting Gallipolis Gallia Academy High School defeated River Valley 14-3 in a non-league baseball battle up Cheshire way Tuesday evening.

GAHS improved to 12-3 on the year. RVHS dropped to 2-9.

Gallipolis is scheduled to host Warren Local in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League battle at 5 p.m., Wednesday on the Robert H. (Bob) Eastman Ballfield. River Valley is scheduled to host Vinton County on Saturday in a twinbill starting at 11 a.m.

Tuesday, GAHS took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, then added six runs each in the third and fourth innings to mercy rule the Raiders. It was Gallia Academy’s seventh straight victory.

Big Jimmy Clagg was credited with the victory. In five innings, Clagg fanned eight, walked three and allowed three runs on two hits. GAHS made one error.

River Valley used three pitchers in the five-inning contest. Clemente started and was charged with the loss. He gave up eight runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings. Jeffers relieved him in the third. Jeffers gave up six runs on four hits. He was relieved by Kemper in the fourth inning. Combined, the Raider pitchers gave up 14 runs on 11 hits. RVHS made three errors. RVHS pitchers fanned three and walked eight.

Three Blue Devils had two hits apiece—Ty Warnimont, Drew Young and Brady Curry. Warnimont scored three runs and had two RBIs. Young, Faro, Bailey and Bryant Bokovitz all had doubles and Warnimont had two triples and Brandon Taylor one. Faro had three RBIs while Bokovitz and Curry each had two RBIs. Bobby Dunlap also had one Blue Devil safety.

Crow and Farley had River Valley’s two hits.

Didn't River Valley compete with GA last year? Oh a difference a year makes.
