SE DII

Post by stone76567 »

Who are the top teams, and what are the expectations this year?

DII - Jackson won their district last year. How many starters do they have returning? The Sexton kid is only a Junior right?
Logan Elm were runners up, what do they have this year?
Hillsboro should be a favorite in the SCOL along with Clinton Massie. I have heard rumors that they have some returners who are not coming out this year??
Gallia Academy graduated a lot, are they reloading or rebuilding? Coach Corvin does a great job with those kids, and I'm sure they will be tough
MT will be young this year, but the young guys have a bright future.
WCH lost 6 seniors who were starters, but have a decent junior class that should compete.

What about Farfield Union, Athens, Warren, Unioto, Meigs, Sheridan and the rest of the DII SE?

With respect to your questions on Jackson, lost starting catcher, right fielder and center fielder to graduation. Lost two other starters to Oak Hill via a transfer.

Return a good bit, but lost a good bit.

Strength of schedule has been bumped way up, it will be interesting to see how the kids respond, play Greenup Co., KY twice, Wheelersburg twice, Athens twice, Tri-Valley and a couple other teams new to the schedule. Coach McGraw will have them ready to go and look for this group to get hot and be a hard out come play-off time.

Sexton kid is a Junior, being courted by the Thundering Herd, OU and a couple others I believe. Quality player and even more of a quality young man.

Don't know too much about the other teams you mention but I think Gallia-Athens-Meigs will all be very competitive. Athens is senior-laden as I understand it and that class is loaded athletically, Meigs has a nice group now as well, and Corvin like you said will get the most out of any group.

Jackson will be very strong with plenty of arms, Minford will be very solid again and Gallia will be good again

Marietta should prove to be much better than last year (12-13). Coach Thrash is returning 8 starters (First team All District Shortstop/Pitcher, Sophomore Isaac Danford and Second Team All District First Basemen, Senior Austin Hefter) 5 of which are Sophomores this year and 3 Seniors. Although young, there is a good balance of experience from the Sophomore and Senior Classes and have a pretty solid lineup 1-9. Defensively the only position that will be making a change from last year is Right Field. If the fields ever dry up they will be hosting the inaugural Washington County Tournament between the counties six high schools. If that happens to cancel it looks like the Tigers will be playing their first games down in Myrtle Beach at The Ripken Experience for the second time in four years. Upon the return from the beach trip the Tigers are looking to compete very strongly in the ECOL and hopefully make a run deep into the tournament.

Looking at a variety of teams to be good in D2

Jackson of course is the frontrunner. Great pitching!

Also look for Logan Elm.

Hillsboro will be good

Gallia Academy is going to be down a little but still competitive.

Sleeper could be the Minford Falcons. Return a ton of players as well as one of the best catchers in the area.
