COSHOCTON - Caden Burga knocked in six runs, highlighted by a third-inning grand slam, as Cambridge Legion Post 84 outlasted Coshocton 10-7 in the championship game of the Ben Tufford Memorial Tournament on Sunday at Lake Park.

The Cherokees (12-4-1) opened the game by loading the bases in the top of the first inning, but only managed one run on Brody Hammersley's sac fly, which brought in Zander Proper for a 1-0 lead.

Singles by Angelo Rocco, Blade Barclay and Caleb Bond loaded the bases in the third to set up Burga's slam, which to put Cambridge (13-5) ahead for good at 4-1.

A passed ball in the fourth allowed Coshocton to cut the deficit to 4-2 when Proper scored, but Burga struck again in the fifth with a double to plate Jensen Helmuth and Barclay, and Garret Burga's scored Caden to put Cambridge up 7-2 after five.

Gabe Tingle's RBI double sparked a three-run sixth for the Cherokees. Kadin Mount's sac fly brought home Tingle and Trevor Yoder followed with a RBI single to make it 7-5.

Cambridge answered with three in the home half. Tyler Dodd hit a RBI single, Helmuth scored on that play after an error in right field, and Garret Burga's fielder's choice brought home Barclay for a 10-5 advantage.

Mount's two-run double with two outs in the seventh for Coshocton capped the scoring and provided the final margin.

Brock Valentine earned the win, scattering seven hits, striking out six and walking two in five innings, while Caden Burga fanned three in 1 2/3 innings of relief for the save. He also had two hits, as did Barclay and Rocco. Barclay and Helmuth each scored three runs.

Mount surrendered seven runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss and had two hits and three RBIs to pace the Coshocton offense. Proper, Nathan Fauver, Gabe Tingle and Trent Warden each added two hits in the loss.

Cambridge needed a four-run sixth to top Wheeling 6-4 in one semifinal. Wheeling scored three in the top of the sixth to make it 4-2, but Barclay drilled a grand slam in the bottom half to give Cambridge the win.

Brock Valentine and Kaden Whaley each had two hits and Caden Burga doubled in the victory.
