gahs4ever wrote:That depends on who your coaches are for one thing. And Im not exactly sure what you mean by "top level." Not everyone has the ability to go to the next level, nor wants to. And certainly not everyone can afford it or is close enough to it to get involved.
Our coach took softball program a few years back that more resembled a recreational church league team in terms of skill level and understanding how to play the game and the fundamentals. We have won 39 games the past two years, including a league and sectional championship. We probably have more girls on summer teams than at any time since girls softball became a varsity sport. The improvement has been dramatic and almost unbelievable.
I wouldnt trade our coaching staff for any in SE Ohio, and Im proud of the way our girls show up ready to go to work, and the commitment they and their parents make in order to get even better.
Your program is fast becoming a model for all schools in SEO to follow!
You all have an A+ coaching staff.

South Point is having one this year. Call them if you want to schedule a game.

Reedsville Eastern will be having one for the first time in about 4 years..
Re: should high schools have JV softball teams?
every high school team should strive to have a j.v. team for baseball & softball, could you imagine a high school football program without a j.v. squad? To me it just makes since

of course. the more these kids play the better they will be! its a shame that all of the schools aren't able or not willing to field a J.V. and Varsity team.
Re: should high schools have JV softball teams?
Its a mans world. Equal rights have only gone so far. Almost all High Schools have a JV baseball team. If it weren't for travel ball, girls wouldn't have the chance to learn and grow as a player.

Yes! And Little league should embrace and support it!!! If your child is playing on the jr high team plus LL and misses a LL practice, they shouldn't be punished. Atleast they are learning and playing the game!!! Embrace it and know we are building a team for high school!

L.L. should update their rules. ASA is so much better for getting the kids ready for high school. By the way Northwest JV 3-0 so far.
Re: should high schools have JV softball teams?
Little league has changed a few rules this year to help better challenge the 11/12 yr old girls. You can now leave on release and run on drop third strike. I think the other post was more toward playing in both leagues (little league and Jr High) at the same time. Again, it shouldn't hurt the kids unless they allow one team or the other to have to forfeit a game then it's a problem.
