Grannyblue..... The only crying would be that your umpiring crew is scared to make the correct call because they are intimidated by your coach... telling our pitcher on the second pitch that she is pitching illegal ( senior pitcher ) (no other warnings this season)....wonder how many times the coach reminded him before the game.....the batters were constantly out of the batters box...no call... wonder why? maybe because the Gali coach threw a 5 min fit the one time the officail called the batter for getting rid of the front line of the box....lol... get real.... wait just normal...

Fact #1. The umpires were from Meigs County--not local.
Fact #2. The pitcher must present the ball before she pitches it.
Fact #3. Unfortunately, there was no batter box after the first few batters. New field. Wet field. Both teams did the best that they could. Judgement call by ump. Our coach will ALWAYS support his players.
Fact #4. There are many fans that do not know the RULES of the game and should probably just keep quiet.
What does "wait just normal" mean?

Fact #1- umpires work many Gali games ...if the coach is not pleased how many game will they get?
Fact # 2- it was not that she did not present the ball.
Fact #3- If the batters intentionally remove the line no there is'nt one. Official did call a player for removing the line.
Fact # 4- True .... But i have been around softball for 40 + years and i do now the RULES....Most times the fans just want the officials to be consisitant..... Which i did not believe they were....But then again what do i know?

I was just surprised that the game was able to be played. I can't wait until next year to see it finished. Great job!!!!
Re: Gallia Academy- 6 Jackson- 2
I can't comment on all the things being discussed, I spent most of the evening at the baseball field and only caught an inning of the softball game... Batters box infractions & pitching infractions are usually judgement calls and open for many different opinions... Gallia scored I believe 4 runs in the inning I witnessed, if Jackson could have made a couple of plays the damage could have been minimized to a couple of runs... I tried to watch the game from the BB field and noticed a few times that Jackson had the bases loaded and failed to get a big hit.... Field conditions were not the best but were equal for both teams.... With as much rain as we have had this spring games must be played when possible
If you wait for the perfect day it will probably never come and teams would play a very limited schedule.. Should be an interesting gamt the next time these 2 teams meet...

Re: Gallia Academy- 6 Jackson- 2
Fact: I'm one of those stupid people who doesn't know the rules. However, I can read, and I do have a copy of the 2010 NFHS Softball Rule Book. The rules may have changed in 2011, but ....
Challenge: Where in the NFHS Softball Rule Book does it refer to, mention, state or even imply that the pitcher must "present the ball"? I've been hearing about the "present the ball rule" for the past several years, but no one (coaches, parents, umpires) can show me where it appears in the book.
Fact: According to the Rule Book: It is a strike "when a member of the offense intentially removes a line." Yes the field was wet, but chalk does not typically evaporate into thin air in the first innining of a game.
Fact: After playing for decades on a very poor field, GAHS Softball finally gets a well deserved field.
Mystery:
Why on one of God's greenest (and most beautiful) fields in SE Ohio did someone have the foresight to build an out field fence that actually prevents the ball from going under it? Especially after this was an issue for years in right field.

Fact # 5: Facts aren't facts just because you say they are!!!!!! There is no rule about presenting the ball.grannyblue wrote:Fact #1. The umpires were from Meigs County--not local.

Fact # 6: Last time I checked Meigs County is in SE OHIO, is adjacent to Gallia County, and crows fly across the line daily. It's not a long commute, and these umpires have called several games at GAHS in the past few years.
Fact # 7: There are many ways to support players. Screaming ,yelling (at umps and players), and staring down umpires is a very odd way to show support.
Re: Gallia Academy- 6 Jackson- 2
"Prior to pitching, the pitcher must take a position with shoulders in line with first and third base with the ball in the glove or pitching hand, and with the hands separated.."
I found this quote on another forum. They said it was taken from the 2011 NFHS Softball rule book... I did not witness the so called illegal pitch at the game. Looks like a pretty straight forward rule to me.. If the pitcher would take her position and not separate her hands, that to me would be an illegal pitch... Maybe this is what they are calling presenting the ball???? Maybe before the next meeting the umpires could go over this rule with the coaches and all confusion would be eliminated.
