Quick Question? I just saw the roster for the SE Ohio Underclassman Tournament Roster for 2011, Heather Ward is listed on the Roster at 2B. Did she try out for pitcher and not make the underclassman tournament team as a pitcher? Or is this a different ball player? Just curious how you could be 1st team All Ohio and not make the Underclassman SE Ohio Team? Or did she not want to pitch and tried out for infield instead? Just Curious.....

Well, she is the pitcher for a team that led her to a 19-1 record I believe. She had an unbelievable season as the top pitcher for one of the very best teams around. There could be better pitchers around....but they maybe not had the surrounding talent that she did.
She deserved 1st team all-ohio.
She deserved 1st team all-ohio.

i've always heard that pitching and catching is where the colleges spend most of their "ship" money. would think she would showcase the pitching.gahs4ever wrote:Perhaps she is wanting to get seen as a position player because I know she hopes to play college ball at some level. GAHS played 24 games this year and Heather pitched 20 of them; thus she didnt get a lot of time playing other positions. Also she came up to the varsity as a freshman and played 2B most of the time her first two years while she backed up four year starter Amy Noe in the circle.

Not sure about that, I have always heard that College softball teams are made up of high school shortstops.gahs4ever wrote:Well, fastpitch softball is mainly pitching and defense, but in terms of scholly money, they have to fill 7 other positions. I'm very sure that the best pitchers are also the best position players as well.

Re: CONGRATULATIONS TO GAHS' HEATHER WARD
Heather had a truly outstanding year. She won 19 ballgames overall and was 12-0 in her league. She hit .469 for the season with 38 knocks,13 extra base hits,27 RBI's,and an OPS over 1200. Her team has won 3 consecutive league titles, and interesting enough, had the game-winning hits with 2 outs against Marietta in 2009 as a freshman, and this past season with 2 outs as a Jr against Warren Local. As far as college goes,it remains to be seen whether she primarily pitches, plays infield,or outfield. Maybe a little of each, depending on where she goes.
As far as the league "Selection" went, one coach voted her second and one coach voted her third!! Wonder which ones? .... Some people know.
