I'm pretty sure that is a biased post...The catcher WAS blocking the plate without the ball and the Warren runner DID attempt to slide. I am sorry the girl was hurt and hope she is back at it quickly. Also, if the box score is correct, Warren had 3 errors and Gallia had 4 so I doubt that errors allowed Warren to score 17 runs. I think that probably has to do with the 15 hits they accumulated. Gallia is a great team...but Warren is too and I think it is fair to say that Gallia didn't "pretty much cause the loss themselves". They just got outplayed this time.

#1 softball mom wrote:Heard the GA/Warren game had a lot of errors by GA and they pretty much caused the loss themselves, but I also heard the call at home where the girl was called safe was blatantly wrong! Also a bad scare for the catcher that did everything right........outcome could have been worse!
Also heard that Warren hit the cover off the ball!!! Excuses, excuses, excuses. GA deserved the win early in the season....Warren deserved this win.

Hope both catcher and runner are OK from the Gallia/Warren collision. Catcher had plate blocked and runner tried to dive head first. Catcher dropped the ball and Runner safe at plate. Was a bad one. Catcher left game and runner finished game.

Catcher was waiting at plate with ball. Guess we saw different games.

I think ball reaching the plate and runner reaching the plate happened at the same time...which would still not allow her to block the plate. Which is why I agreed with the obstruction call. Do you not? Not trying to stir the pot, just curious. Honestly I think a lot of times during close calls it matters what angle you are watching from...either way I hope both players are okay.

Hopefully both are fine for the rest of their games.

Warren's team speed and a mix of putting the ball in play and line drives put a ton of pressure on the defense. Against us there were no easy outs as it seemed like everyone got down the line in 2.8 or better. Their batted balls found all the holes and a decent number of line drives to no fielder made it tough.....their defense was on it as well.

Warren beat us with their bats and our sloppy defense. We have done pretty well with our youth and varsity inexperience. Our pitcher and catcher are our only returning starters from last year. We will be OK and these girls will learn and improve as the season progresses. Great group of ladies!! As far as the home plate incident: Our catcher was 3-4 feet in front of home plate, up third base line with the ball in her glove. As far as I understand the rule, the runner must avoid contact. She did not. Our catcher was flattened but the runner was obviously out and the ump called it that way. Our catcher took the ball out of her glove and put it in her other hand as she was laying flat on her back, to prove she kept hold of it. Several seconds later she laid the ball down. She was injured. There was no obstruction. Our catcher had control of the ball long enough. The Warren runner was out and really could have been ejected, but was not. That play did not win or lose the game but is a perfect example of some of the problems lady athletes face. I won't go into details but, those that were there, know what I mean. And Warren has their own issues on their field many times. We just have to learn to play through it!
