Three freshman on the 1st string.
Wow !
I think the SVC class of lady Freshman may be the most talented (<<<big edit on the X's part) class I have ever seen.
Congrats to all the girls who made the list.
I would have had Ashtan Roberts from ZT on the first string but I honestly don't know which girl to switch with.

Nothing against Erin Bane at all because she is a really good player but I completely disagree with there being co-players of the year. Morgan Geno should have been the only one!! Morgan's stats are better and most importantly without her Zane Trace is probably just a .500 team. I'm not trying to put down the rest of the girls on Zane Trace either I'm just trying to say how important she is to the team. Maybe someone can explain it to me?

svcrules: Erin Bane is an all around athlete-and without her
the Shermans would be a different team as well. (even though that team is full of good athletes) I don't think it is fair..at all, that you would say that she does not deserve it. Sounds like you are biased to me.

geewhiz: Tell me where in my post that I sound biased? I'm simply stating the facts. Morgan's stats are better. I agree that Unioto would be a different team without Erin but they wouldn't be as different a team as Zane Trace would be without Morgan. You said it yourself Unioto is full of good players. Once again I'm not putting down the Zane Trace girls. Morgan is just a bigger impact to her team than Erin is. And like I said in my first line of my first post nothing against Erin, she is a great player. In their head to head match at Unioto Morgan hit the home run in the top of the 7th to take the lead and then struck out Erin in the bottom of the 7th to win the game.

It is all a matter of opinion. We all know about high school stats...they are not always accurate. Morgan is a good ball player, Erin is a good ball player. I am sure that they don't mind sharing the spot light with one another.
As far as the game you reference...I don't even want to comment on that except to say that the Sherman's lost a dear friend to a long battle with cancer 2 days before that game, and they were treated with great disrespect by a member of the ZT coaching staff, in a big way. I have to believe they would like a do-over on that game.

The All Conference vote is always controversial subject, the Bane girl from Unioto is a great player and a class act, she is well deserving of POY, she will be hard to replace.
The Geno girl from ZT had a great as a freshman year, but no comparison to Allison Cox as a freshman who went on to be a 4 time POY, Geno needs to improve on her foot work as a defensive player, covering bunts and balls hit right and left of her. I think she was a better hitter than pitcher( compliment). She will be one of the great ones if she continues to get better.
The only question I have about players who did not make it is the Neff girl from Unioto, And the Irvin Girl from Huntington both players seemed to up there in the stats this season.
Rosshirt proved herself last season leading her team into the Regionals
Swayne a transfer proved herself on and off the mound
Flautt and Saultz were pre season picks.
As for Lytle and Dunn don't know much about them both teams split this season, with wins over teams on bottom half of the conference?
On another note I here Adena has a great young pitcher coming next season! Hope she stays put!
Also How is Bennett left out of the Coach of the year? Westfall was a 3rd place team, and no 3rd place team should have a Coach of the year I'm sorry thats pretty sad, unless they were picked last, but that wasn't the case!
Good luck to the SVC in tournament play!

xtrabase... If you don't know much about Lytle and Dunn, how can you say who would or would not deserve player of the year? Both had GREAT seasons and are definitely worthy of the honor they received. Also, how can you know so much about Bane, Geno, and Swayne, as well as who was left off of the list, and also have such a strong opinion on coach of the year and know nothing about any other players on the 1st team? This really makes your post and opinions nearly worthless!

There are many good players, the league has def improved.
Not sure how xtrabase decides who gets coach OY,but I do know that just because your team has the fastest pitcher it does not give you automatic COY. I personally felt like Paint Valley coach could have been considered. His team looked better than they have in a long time. He seems to be working hard to make them a better team. Westfall lost 4 starters and is a young team. They missed first place in the league by 1 game. Obviously they are doing something right!

Wow, ALLABOUTSOFTBALL i pinched a nerve. releax didn't say anything bad about anyone I just haven't heard anything about two players on the list, probably because there freshman?

Coach of the year should go to the coach who lead his/ or her team to the conference championship, thats pretty clear.

Westfall has a nice team, but again Unioto is hands down the most talented team, that should have ran the table.

Yes Geewiz the fastest pitcher who wins the league is a shoe in for POY!

Paint Valley has a great Coach, but I am sure he tell you he shouldnt be coach of the year!

Last point Neff is a great catcher and should be a All Conference Player!

With the pitching rubber being moved back it will be hard to compare Geno's freshmen year to Cox's.

This I do know, the Geno girl is fun to watch and has a bright future ahead of her.

I doubt Mr. Bennett from Trace is too concerned with the COY vote....
He just won the sectional title which I'm sure he would rather have.

xtrabase: Your input was what I was looking for. Based on her stats and impact on her team I felt that she should have been player of the year by herself. But after you mentioned her defense I understand more why there were co players. I disagree with your comment about no comparison to Allison. You have to remember that each incoming class of girls are getting better thanks to more and better opportunities they have in little league. Plus the mound is farther back. So Morgan is probably facing better competition from a farther distance. As for Bennett he is no coach and is even a worse football coach. He is benefiting from Morgan.

Geno had a great year, wish her the best of luck through out her career!
I believe that travel ball has helped players , and the parents who put the time in helping there kids play at a more competitive level at a early age.
Good luck to the SVC teams still in the Tourney!
Remember Cox was a 4 time SVC POY, 4 time All Ohio, and lead the Pioneers to the State Championship Game, went on to have a stellar College Career, I wouldn't start comparing quite yet! Just Saying!

I disagree on Bennett not being a coach.

In the Unioto game he moved Geno to the top of the line-up.
A move that won the game and a share of the league title.
If Geno is not batting lead off she does not get back up in the 7th inning and does not hit the two out, two run dinger. The next player up was an out.
All the lawn chair coaches on both sides were critiquing that move...............

If I were a Trace fan I would take a lesson in Zen and be careful of what I wish for. John is a good man and does a good job with those girls.

Westfall lost its top four hitters off of last year's district title team and won one more game in conference this year than last. Coach of the year isn't just about who wins the league.

As for player of the year, Erin Bane and Morgan Geno are both very solid. Bane should not be penalized just because she is on a deeper team.

Bman, that was the point that I was attempting to make, you said it better than me.
xtoxxvii..if you were at the ZT vs U game, you know that things happened with the coaching staff (not the head coach)
that most fans would not be proud of. I believe it affected the outcome, but that is just my opinion and I hope to never see that kind of behavior again in the SVC.

Yes I was at that game and I agree with you.

I don't understand why players are no longer allowed to "chatter in the field" but an opposing unpaid assistant coach is allowed to yell that way?

I would rather hear kids chatter "batter, batter, batter, SWING!" then what I heard from an adult in the ZT dugout that day.

On the Co-Players of the year:
Both E-Bay and G-No are quality players and kids
I am happy for both.
Kind of a neat way for the changing of the guard, if you will, in the SVC.
I doubt if either is bothered by sharing it.

But for some reason several adults are :122248

Xtoxxviii: Trust me when I tell you that Bennett is not the one who came up with the idea to move Geno to the top of the line up. DO NOT give him the credit for that. I am sure he's a good man but he does not do a good job coaching. I do like your analogy of the changing of the guard. Do tell what you and geewhiz are talking about from the ZT coach.
