The 12u Eastern Nationals are July 24-27 in Marion Oh , nice regional end of the year type event , usually held out of state .

Re: 10U-18U ASA Girls Pre-Season Fastpitch Qualifier April
According to Ohio ASA president Warren Jones Kentucky ASA CANNOT hold tournaments in ohio. Kentucky has no jurisdiction in Ohio. Also Kentucky ASA in in the Northern region where Ohio is in the Eastern region. This tournament has not been approved to be an Eastern National qualifer per Warren Jones or Brent Munn District 8 commissioner. If Mr. Balestra would return phone calls to Warren Jones he would know this.
Re: 10U-18U ASA Girls Pre-Season Fastpitch Qualifier April
I spoke to Bill Bollinger the Kentucky State Commissioner today. We CAN host tournaments in Ohio and can also award berths to any of the regional tournaments. Nobody from Ohio ASA has called me. Bill said to give him a call or email him if you have issues with this. Please visit our website at www.kyasa.org for contact information. We are hosting tournaments in various bordering states which is common practice. Ohio ASA also does this form time to time in Kentucky. There is no issue with it and is commonly done. Feel free to give Bill Bollinger a call.
Re: 10U-18U ASA Girls Pre-Season Fastpitch Qualifier April
No dog in this hunt, but I could understand the 10u & 12u that early. 14u would be questionable due to freshmen playing HS ball in Ohio. And I never heard of a "high school (16/18u combined) division" for an ASA Regional Qualifier. Where is that played?
Re: 10U-18U ASA Girls Pre-Season Fastpitch Qualifier April
The combined 16U/18U division is becoming more common in local tournaments. The way that it works with our tournaments is all 16U and 18U teams play together as a high school division. The highest finishing 16U teams receive the 16U berth to the regional tournament of their choice and the highest finishing 18U teams receive the 18U berths. Even though it is a combined age group, they still receive separate 16u and 18u berths to the ASA National Regional Tournament.
Re: 10U-18U ASA Girls Pre-Season Fastpitch Qualifier April
Thanks for the explanation, but are these high school teams entering this ASA Qualifier or summer teams at the 14 - 18u level ? If summer teams, in Ohio, that a no no.

No. They are not high school teams. They are high school aged kids that are playing for travel teams.

Then for the Ohio based travel teams ages 14u - 18u you are jeopardizing their eligibilty for HS ball.

Re: 10U-18U ASA Girls Pre-Season Fastpitch Qualifier April
This is why kentucky ASA should not be coming into Ohio. If Mr. Balestra would contact or return calls from Warren Jones Ohio Commissioner; he would know this. He could even contact the local district commissioner and found this out. I know Mr. Balestra is new to ASA and not familiar with the rules. Also I hope he has all the coaches with teams entering his tournaments complete a concussion course which is state law in Ohio, but I'm sure he doesn't know about that either.
Re: 10U-18U ASA Girls Pre-Season Fastpitch Qualifier April
Brent,
Sorry you feel threatened by us. We are going to continue to sanction ASA qualifiers in this area for NO CHARGE - $0. Each coach that enters our tournaments know the rules and laws of the area. Including OHSAA rules. Each High School and Travel Coach should consider that. You make yourself look kind of bad by posting to a forum instead of picking up the phone., I have not received one call from you. I charge $225 per team for each tournament and nothing $0 to sanction a tournament. You charge the host sites $25 per team to sanction and your tournaments average $350 to $400 to enter. That is what really concerns you. I talked to Warren and Bill this weekend. Pick up the phone and call me if you want to talk. Or keep posting here and make yourself look worse. I don't care either way. The tournaments will be held regardless. Bill will award the berths through KY if you don't want to agree to our LOW COST fee schedule. If you want to be involved with my tournaments call me. 606-922-2261.

Re: 10U-18U ASA Girls Pre-Season Fastpitch Qualifier April
You are the one wanting to run tournaments; so you should be contacting me. You should have went through the proper channels in the first place. You are lying about only charging $225 for each tournament. This is the only one you are charging that. The others are $350 so don't make it look like I'm trying to make money when it is you that is making the money. I only run one tournament not 5-6 like you. I don't charge the host sites anything to have a tournament; I pay them to use their fields. I don't know where your getting your information, but if you keep lying about stuff you are going to hurt tournaments from coming in this area. SO you need to call me to run tournaments in ohio as Warren told you to do on Saturday.
Re: 10U-18U ASA Girls Pre-Season Fastpitch Qualifier April
Brent,
Not sure what you think I lied about. We do not have to send any money per team in to ASA to sanction a qualifier if the team is already registered with ASA. If they are not then we have to send $25 per team in to register them (which you usually charge $30 or $35). All of my tournaments are $225 (www.softballtournaments.com). I originally planned on having them at $350 so that price may be out there somewhere but we decided to lower it to $225. All of my tournaments will definitely be $225. I don't get any money from my tournaments. I pay the host site, and umpires and the rest is donated to hosting travel teams. Who gets the money from your tournament? the Kentucky State Commissioner still told me I don't need to go thru Ohio and to hold my tournaments regardless and he would talk to Warren. I want to work with you guys to kill all of the drama but we won't be paying $25 per team unless the teams are not ASA registered yet. Then we can charge them $25 at the tournament, sign their roster and give them a 2014 ASA card (which I have). They do not have to register online like you told some local teams. They can still register with us and we can send in $25 to ASA. I am not going to reply to any more of your comments because this shouldn't be a public matter, but I will call you this week and hopefully meet with you in person this week.

Basically the OHSSA rule that Gopher posted means if a high school player plays, practices or has a tryout for any other softball team during their regular high school season, they will violate said rule and their high school eligibility.

Re: 10U-18U ASA Girls Pre-Season Fastpitch Qualifier April
General regulations 4.3 OHSAA. No girls on a high school team are eligible to play in this tourney. Been there and had that.
Re: 10U-18U ASA Girls Pre-Season Fastpitch Qualifier April
Thanks for the information. We are going to cancel the High School Division for all of our tournaments until after the High School season concludes.
