Jackson vs Minford

Post by JacksonI »

I was in attendance for the match-up between Jackson and Minford yesterday evening. Once seeing the Conkey girl warm up I wasn’t too sure that Jackson was going to be very successful at hitting. Little was I wrong, neither teamed score until late into the game. However Jackson played very well. Kaycee Jenkins pitched a very good game, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say it was one of Kaycee’s better games. On the hitting side Kari Jenkins had 2 hits, Kelly Hughes had a single and 2 walks which scored 3 runs. Sam Humphreys and Madison Spohn also got in on the hitting action. Overall Jackson played well; Conkey will probably be the best pitcher that they will face all year. I thought our girls really stayed calm and focused and came out with the W. I think our outfield could use some work, but nothing too major. Most of the girls in the outfield are young and inexperienced. The Ironladies have another tough task today ahead of them. They face their biggest rival Wellston. And the Lady Rockets always come to play. In fact they just won by mercy rule yesterday. They have a good bit of girl’s that can really hit the ball (folden, long). If we can contain both of these girls and keep errors to a minimum, I feel like we have a good shot..

Goodluck Ladies!

Outfield is critically important. Sam Humphreys played an excellent OF last year and Spohn and Parks have played a ton of softball. Parks made a couple nice plays tonight in a tough sun and Spohn gets the ball in quickly with a very accurate arm. She laid out for one tonight and about made a tremendous play....the effort was appreciated.

Mistakes will be made and the fierce sun will wreak some havoc....but this outfield will continue to improve and help the Ironladies tremendously.

Ironman92 We both were in attendance for this game, and yes you are right between Spohn and Parks the amount of softball that has been played between the two is unreal. Madison has a very accurate arm as you previously stated and her ability and effort is right where it needs to be. I thought for sure that whenever she dove for the ball that she had it. I thought it was a great effort. That would have definitely made the highlight reel. Overall I think this team is "somewhat" solid on defense, but we need to work on offense. The only reason wellston gained the advantage is because we lack the ability to play offense and hit the ball. Other factor being that the Left-handed Mcmanaway girl was pretty good herself. I know these girls can hit the ball, and most hit well. I think we need to relax, not be so uptight and just have fun and play softball.
