Has anyone heard about District honors yet?
I heard there was a lot of controversy over that one.

They were evidently not based on Stats but only on who you know that is voting and who the coach puts in a good word for prior to voting. "You know, I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine". If you look at true stats two of SV's would be at the bottom of the list. Batting average and errors! There is a weasel in the wood pile somewhere people! This has done more to harm the team than anyone can imagine. And we talk about Clay's attitude! We are just as bad when we do it to our own! :aaaaa30

I have to agree with the last writer. Something was really screwed up on the SOC picks. New Boston, Western and Beaver Eastern would be hard pressed to have one girl between the three teams who qualified when compared to the competion. SV had two girls on there whose batting averages added together would still put you on the end of the lineup. Maybe has to do with their parents knowing some of the coaches in the SOC and ASA affiliation. The other one led the team in errors last year but still somehow made it. Clay on the other hand should have had five girls on first team. They did win the conference didn't they? When SV played Clay the girls who made this list had a total of two hits in twelve times at bat for a .166 average. When they played at SV they did alittle better. Nance did good as lead off but that is about all. There was very little offense on either side that game. Maybe SV parents can tell Clay parents how to get their girls on these lists cause you sure didn't earn it by the stats I kept.
And what about Glockner for Notre Dame? Never seen her name anywhere. She was their spark plug! These awards should be given for actual stats not for who you are or how you're parents are sucking up to the coaches of the SOC.

Shame on you!

Not to take away from Wiley or the two sisters who played for New Boston but their game is Basketball at which they are at the top. In softball they do ok. Clay has dominated softball for two years now since SV lost Lori and then Estep as pitchers. Between Clay and Green they should have accounted for seven or eight of the first team players. SV maybe two or three at best. Just that the two that were picked, one first team and one second team were not deserving. Ash and Nance were ok as first and second team picks. The other two were suspect. In District play Ash did not have it. She could not hit her location and her change up was hit and miss all afternoon. SV would have been better off with Nance or Corn finishing up. Either could have changed the tempo of the game set by Ash in the first inning. A team that looses confidence in their pitcher the first inning is in trouble for the remainder of the game. This happened to SV against Danville. SV was the better team but the first inning set the outcome for the game. I was standing on the Danville side of the field and could visibly see the frustration in the SV coach who was calling the pitches when Ash could not hit her locations. The Crestline assistant coach who was standing next to me also noticed it and made a comment about this not being the pitchers day.

It looks like they do it like all the league sports. The only awards that are actually voted on are Coach of the Year and Player of the Year. Each team earns a set number of spots to first team and to second team based on how the team finished in the league race. The coach of that team fills those slots as they see fit. All teams get at least one representative on each team regardless.

This pretty much takes out the inter-coach politics of being voted onto a team.

That is interesting. Our coach told us that they had nothing to do with who made it from our team that the other coaches voted our girls in! Stange. Your explaination makes more since as to what really :aaaaa46 happened. Thanks for setting the record straight on this.

Really amazing !

Thanks for the post.

Just becasue New Boston, Eastern and Western have losing seasons, it does not mean that they don't have some good girls on the team. You can't help what school you go to. There are some good ball players on those teams. Not many I agree, but there are a few. You are on here talking to some coaches and saying "shame on you" and than you post something on here bad about other young players. Maybe ,shame on you.

I'm sure that many people feel that so and so should or should not have made SOC honors, but to say that between the 3 schools you mentioned there wasnt any qualified is wrong.

I know, I think that some of the District Honors was a little fishy but I'm not going to set on here and say that the girls who go to the smaller non-softball schools don't deserve some recognition.

And I would really like to know who does pick SOC team honors and District. I will agree that some of them seemed a little out-there and far-fetched. But all schools should be represented.
