Burg Softball
Re: Burg Softball
I dont think the ship is sinking- what you have is a group of girls that graduated along with a couple on the team that all played travel ball and honed in their skills and were ready to play HS ball and practiced a lot on their own. Now with that said i dont know of what girls are playing summer ball and putting in the extra time-BP and all the self motivated drills. The team definately has the coaches to get it done- there was a Gap with the girls that left and there are some girls coming up that will fill the gap- this is the growing pains, which is tough to swallow while this team rebounds. We dont like it anymore than anyone else and hopefully this season will be motivation for some girls to step it up a notch. If they dont you will see the same result next season- GO BURG

Re: Burg Softball
Again I'll ask the question, why doesn't Burg have a JV team? You have enough girls to run two good, competitive teams. Why not keep them all playing all 4 years instead of cutting that many kids?
Re: Burg Softball
^^^^ Fair question.
Also, one aspect that no one has touched on. Why not have a JV team so that more girls have an opportunity to play the game they enjoy and love. At the high school level everything doesn't have to be and shouldn't be about winning. If you have the facilities and a willing coach and plenty of players.....why not have a JV team?

Re: Burg Softball
I have been to many of the Burg games. I have no daughter who plays on the team, but I go to watch. The two girls who quit doesn't mean that they are quitter and lost a valuable lesson. The coaches were to blame. When you watch the games you see a division that has never been there before. Some of the girls playing shouldn't even be playing but they are because of their names. There are some girls who set the bench who put in more hours of playing all year round. You can see that the coaches daughter runs the show and so does her mother. All of the girls are out of control and need to have the law layed down. From all the year that I have been watching Burg softball, this year has been awful. If you show up to a game not mentally you will get it handed to you. These girls may have been physically there, but they didn't learn a valuable lesson. When you are on the field you need to put aside your differences and break out of all the clicks and join together as a team. Wheelersburg didn't do that this season and it showed. You had no right to say that when the two girls quit it looked like they didn't want to play. That's crap. You need to look at the whole picture and see why they quit. Knapp and Staley are only jrs and they will be returning next season. Since Knapp quit pitching Burg better get pitchers with heads on right. The team needs to put aside their differences and act like ladies and represent like the ladies did before them. The coaches need to play fair and let the girls who will help them play, not because of the names. If this is corrected then maybe just maybe burg can get back on track.
