On the other hand I did see the incident that Iam4OSU saw, chants after a homerun of "In your face," and "Take that." I might also add that the Clay softball team in general has some of the foulest mouths I have ever heard on a softball field.
The fact of the matter is, this behavior (or lack thereof) and sportsmanship (or...lack thereof) has haunted Clay Softball for a few years now, I find it hard to look past the coach in my opinion. Sure, Coach Ruby is an excellent coach of the game, but I wonder what type of lessons these girls are recieving outside of the ballgame. If you cant control your kids, or atleast have them act respectfully, what's the point?
I know I will regret this but can't go without chiming in...Be A Warrior obviously has issues with Clay...just check out the "Clay clan, shady demeanor comments"...the chants of "In your face" and "Take that" came from people on the other side of the fence...not the kids playing between the lines...so just how much is Coach Ruby supposed to control?...the kids have nothing to do with that nonsense just as Odie cannot control how his crowd would conduct themselves...as far as the foulest mouths on the softball field...I particularly heard your precious SV girls dropping the "f bomb" during their last game...guess that is not too foul since they are above and beyond any judgements...I did not see the Clay girls do anything inappropriate during the district win or after their win when they watched for a few innings...I believe a coach does have control over who their teenagers root for outwardly..."good sportsmanship" as I see it includes supporting teams from your own league and area...
As far as the Clay kids being ignored for awards...it is a ridiculous situation and sad to say the least...it makes the whole "award" process a joke...sad that adults would consider it their job to punish teenagers who worked hard enough and deserved to win their awards...Coach Mike Estepp and the group at Wheelersburg baseball were shunned as well...it would appear the most important criteria for being shunned for SOC awards is simply winning
The trip to state didn't cost anyone a scholarship...as you will see in the future...kids have plenty of opportunities...hopefully Coach Ruby hasn't ruined them for life...
