The Portsmouth 9 & 10 Girls should be very good this year. I saw them play last year, and I don't think they lost very many girls from last years team.

SP has the best teams in the 13-14 and 9-10 brackets. The other brackets will not have enough pitching to keep them in the tourney very long.

portsmouth will have a competetive 10u team assuming all the girls are playing. If they all play they will be very good. MD

I think the SP team comment was taken the wrong way. I believe it was meant that South Points better teams are in those age groups and not that SP teams are the best in the tournaments. We will have good teams overall, but pitching is weak across all age groups.

Right on diva dad. I meant that the 9-10 and 13 -14's will have teams that will place better than the 11-12's and 15-16's. Neither of the latter teams have more than one pitcher that I have seen this year. By no means do I think that SP will rule the tourney in any division. amin reason is a lot of the relly good players are too lazy to play for whatever reason.

I think it starts this next week in Minford. Someone said SP plays on Thurs. but this might have changed with some teams dropping out and others getting back in!

Schedules were done but changed after teams droping it changed.. We may never know untill we get a correct number of teams. I know Glen had them done and then had to change them. After talking to him today he had to change them again as more teams dropped out.

This should be a good tournament. I know Burg is working on the fields. They should be in great shape for tournaments.

Why so many drop outs? Lack of commitment or what?

I think the lasck of teams is due to kids not thinking that all stars is that big a deal any more. Nowadays kids atart making all stars at the 7- 8 level and by the time they get to jr and Sr league the jsut have others things to do. A lot of kids lack commitment and so do their parents if they want to go to the pool or amusement park they drop the teammates and go. Right now I hear there are only 2 teams for Sr. League( SP, SV) and 3 for JR League ( SP, Burg and Webster).

Just saw the bracket for the JR. League. South Point plays Wheelersburg on July 5th at 5:30 and the winner plays West Ports. I can't believe out of 18 leagues in District 11 that only 3 can field teams.

I don't think it is a lack of commitment. The majority of the girls played junior high ball and then played junior league. If the girl is a multiple sport athlete most schools are having camps, open gyms and shoot outs that they are attending. You then throw in vacations and the price of gas it all gets to be too much. I know that my kids are running in so many different directions they don't have a chance to enjoy their summer. Today was the first time my oldest got to relax and just lay by the pool for a couple of hours.
We have to remember that they are just kids and they should get to go to the amusement parks or hang out at the pool sometimes.
