NCAA Eligibility Center (Clearinghouse...)
NCAA Eligibility Center (Clearinghouse...)
Recommendations are to register at the beginning of their sophomore year. Part of that registrations is a $70 fee. Is it necessary to register if a player is constant contact with a list of colleges that have expressed interest in them? Seems pretty hefty of a price and I am not clear as to what or why the fee is there. I could understand a $25 administration fee for web development and to pay those that process the registration. I understand this numbers around 200,000 kids a year and many of them never get contacted by a college. Can anyone else shed some light on this? Thank you.

Not sure why the fee is so high but they still need to contact those schools they might be interested in to get on their radar and if they might play division 1 or 2 NCAA ball they need to register. My daughter played division 2 soccer and her coach there told her she needed to register with the clearinghouse. I believe this determines eligibility by NCAA guidlines to play college ball (taken the right classes in high school, verifies any club ball played, checks GPA and grades, etc.). I know this doesn't answer your question about the fees but it is the one common thread between all NCAA div. 1 and 2 schools and the prospective athlete.

C'mon Sox ! We spend thousands of dollars a summer on softball and your complaining about $70.00 ? Really ?

Okay, okay, okay.....Gopher. You are right, but it does frustrate me if this is just one of those hoops we have to jump through as a formality that really does nothing to help with the recruiting process. I have talked to a number of seniors just this year who are being recruited for CC and Track. They have not registered and better yet did not even know what it was.....LOL! They are going DI next year and will never have completed this process. You tell me???Gopher_the_K wrote:C'mon Sox ! That IS surprising since they "claim" that you have to be registered to prove eligibility. I know they have different sports listed, and softball is one of them, when registering but I honestly didn't look to see if CC or track was listed. Maybe it's only certain sports, who knows.

There is even a clearinghouse for NAIA to verify eligibility, grades, etc. as well as any NCAA. Failure to register prior to attending college can hold up their participation- especially fall sports. Saw it happen last season in 2 sports, swimming and wrestling. As far as I know it's every sport, every level.
