Portsmouth plays Ironton tommorow to determine who's the 2nd place team in the South. If the Trojans win the game they are second place. If they lose it's a 3-way tie for second.

If PHS wins against Ironton:

PHS - 7-5
Jackson - 6-6
Ironton - 5-7

If Ironton wins against PHS:

PHS - 6-6 (2-1 against Ironton, 1-2 against Jackson)
Jackson -6-6 (2-1 against PHS, 1-2 against Ironton)
Ironton - 6-6 (2-1 against Jackson, 1-2 against PHS)
3-way tie with a coin toss to determine 2nd place in the DOC

I hope this make since.

It does little but at the Warren and Gallia that Warren would be playing Portmouth if they beat Jackson. The game would be tomorrow.

You may be right because Portsmouth (6-5), Jackson (6-6), and Ironton (5-6). So I guess that would mean the Trojans would be the 2 seed in the SEOAL South. Not for sure who they play, but my daughter said they play Ironton tommorow. This is what her coach told them today after they beat Jackson.

Are any of these teams .500 on the season? A battle for 2nd, and none above .500?!?! What are the North's records?

Ironton still has to play — possibly— Chillicothe on Thursday in a makeup game, for today's game between the two was postponed.

That game only means something as far as DOC placement if Ironton beats Portsmouth on Wednesday.

If Portsmouth beats Ironton, Portsmouth is 7-5, Jackson 6-6 and Ironton 5-7. Placements are finalized and the Ironton and Chillicothe game is not necessary.

If Ironton beats Portmsouth, then Ironton HAS to play Chillicothe on Thursday. If Ironton beats both Portsmouth and Chillicothe, then Jackson, Ironton and Portsmouth are all 6-6 in the league and none of the established tiebreakers can break the tie (Tiebreakers which can't break ties...lol).

Thus, it comes down to a dreaded coin flip or drawing of some sort.

Also, Zanesville is 3rd in the North and Logan 4th in the North, based on Zanesville winning the 2-of-3 games tiebreaker over Logan.

Who cares? Really, does playing for third, fifth, or seventh really excite any of the teams. I know that the coaches in the south agree with me. Why not let the two top teams duke it out, perhaps a 3 game series, to see who the champ is. I realize a 3 game series could sometime put you over your allotted games but probably not in rainy southern Ohio where we have all had a handful or more of rainouts.

The original talk when this north and south thing started was to have all the games for the DOC at one location. The logical locations being either Logan or Chillicothe because of the number of fields present. The coaches at the time wanted this as sort of a league get together with games, cookouts and perhaps all league selections. Why this never materialized is unknown. But now to ask Zanesville to possible travel to Ironton for the honor of calling themselves a 7th place team seems a little silly to me (and others). I know the all sports trophy purists will take issue with this but lets all have the opportunity to go watch Marietta and GAllia play for the title if we want and not worry about third, fifth, or seventh place.

By the way, congrats to Coach Hopkins and his lady trojans on their comback tonight. Happy for them to pull one out on their senior night...just wish they had been playing someone else.

Good post and a great suggestion. As for who cares about where they finish if not 1st. I can only speak for the Lady Trojans when I say it does mean something if they can finish 3rd overall. This is a program that has not had a lot of success in softball over the last 10-12 years. It would mean a lot to the program to establish something positive. And I would like to thanks you for the kind word for the coach and girls.

Yes, congrats to Portsmouth on their major improvement this year. We can only hope that Chilly continues to improve and Portsmouth has served as an inspiration. Congrats Lady Trojans

Cutekid we are rooting for you to do so from Trojan Country. I was very impressed with the energy and the hard work your girls showed this year. I think the coach has a great attitude with the girls and is on the right track with them. I just hope our program builds on this year and does not return to the past. Good Luck next year and I wish you and your girls the best of luck in the future.
