If Ironton won their final league game this afternoon against Jackson, it means both IHS and GAHS are tied atop the SEOAL South with 7-2 records, but GAHS (13-5) holds the first tiebreaker, which is head to head and we took Ironton two out of three.

This afternoon in Portsmouth, the Blue Angels came to town on the heels of back to back white washings of Point Pleasant 5-0, and Marietta 10-0 (6 inn). Foster was in the circle for the Lady Trojans and shehad pitched very well in defeat in the April 10 DH in Gallipolis. This afternoon would be no exception . Her defense let her down early as they committed errors in innings two and three that led to single runs by the Blue Angels in each inning and Portsmouth trailed 2-0 after 3 complete.

Morgan Leslie crushed a ball over the left field fence in the third to make it 3-0 after 4, and GAHS added an insurance run in the seventh on a pinch hit triple from Katie Jo Dunlap follwed by a two out run scoring single by Mattie Lanham to account for the final Angel tally.

Meanwhile, Blue Angel ace Amy Noe, in serach of her ninth victory of the year, struggled with her command and didnt seem to be comfortable early on. Portsmouth left seven base runners on in the first four innings, including runners at first and third an no one out in the second, first and third with one out in the third, and runners at first and third and one out in the fourth, and each time Noe and the defense stiffened and truend away the threat.

Actuaully the Blue Angel outfield didnt record a single put out in the game. It was Noe's timely strikeouts and a nearly airtight infield that kept the Lady Trojans off the scoreboard.

Finally in the fifth it was as if Noe found another gear, so to speak, and the difference was visible. She got her first pitches over for strikes and pitched ahead in the count the rest of the game, and in fact she retired the last 11 batters of the game.

Noe allowed five singles in the shutout to Howell, Foster, White, and two hits by Carpenter.

The Academy posted six hits in the winning effort. In addition to Leslie's blast, Dunlap had a triple, Heather Ward a double, and singles from Heather Cunningham, Courtney Shriver, and Lanham.

With three straight shutouts under their belts this week, GAHS hopes the weather will cooperate and allow us to get in our scheduled doubleheader with Athens this Saturday beginning at 1 pm.

GAHS ------ 0 1 1 1 0 0 1 - 4 6 2
Portsmouth- 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 0 5 3

WOW.

congrats to the blue angels.
