Just got off work and tuned in. Bottom of 1st, error on left fielder for Meigs. Next batter goes to second on a single and the first runner scores. Walks and errors kill teams in fastpitch. Bad throw to home and runner should have scored easily. Meigs better figure out the fundamentals real quick.

End of 1: Gallipolis 1 - Meigs 0

It's always the sac bunt when a runner is on first with no outs in fastpitch. I wish some of these coaches would let the kids hit away in some of these circumstances but it'll never happen. Automatic out and then you get a strikeout with a grounder or pop up and you're out of the inning. The law of averages says yes, but just not all the time, argghhh !!!!!

End of 2: Gallipolis 1 - Meigs 0

Meigs must get more aggresive, can't go down looking in these seven inning games. Strikeout, walk and then a touch and go to first for a double play to end the top of the inning. The runner going to 2nd has to at least try to avoid the tag and/or stop the double play with a hesitation/delay move of some type. Meigs pitcher holding the Blue Angels at bay for now.

End of 3: Gallipolis 1 - Meigs 0

Strikeouts are going to happen, but at least go down swinging if it's close. The last two girls for Meigs went down looking. Good catch by Meigs outfielder to hold the 1st baserunner that got on via hit. Bunt and a throwing error by the catcher into right field. Runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. Soft liner to short for 2nd out. Two runs score on another throwing error. All three runs are unearned so far.

End of 4: Gallipolis 3 - Meigs 0

Another called 3rd strike looking by Meigs. They've had the Gallipolis pitcher in full count situations alot today but don't pull the trigger on strike 3. Gotta be more aggresive at the plate. Bottom half of inning, the ball is hit in the gap for a triple with an errant throw and it becomes essentially an inside the parker minus the throwing error, unbelievable on these short fields but you gotta remember the 60 foot bases also.

End of 5: Gallipolis 4 - Meigs 0

Quick top of 6. No hits for Meigs so far. Gallipolis bunting on 3rd strike which is odd. Jimmy has a pretty good lead so if it was a bunt that's not a bad idea even though she struck out this time with a runner on 2nd. Another fielding error on the Meigs infield on the next batter. Stolen base so runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs. End of inning.

End 6: Gallipolis 4 - Meigs 0

Good play 5-3 for Gallipolis to keep the no hitter in tact. One out. Pop up to the infield, two outs. Pop out to center, game-set-match.

End of 7: Gallipolis 4 - 0

(Summary: Meigs pitcher did fine. The defense committed too many errors and took numerous 3rd strike calls looking while on offense. Fundamentals, Fundamentals, Fundamentals. On the Gallipolis side they took advantage of mistakes like a good team does and hit the ball hard at key times when they needed it. Congrats to their pitcher for throwing a no-no. Good luck at Unioto next week and hope to see you at Pickerington again this year).

Good game overall, I just thought by listening to it on the net (it's always better in person though) that Meigs had it's chances but that's the way it goes sometimes. Again, good luck to the girls next week.

Note: Hey 4ever, Bob Eastman was a Pomeroy boy originally so in a way Meigs is still alive in the tournament in a surrealistic way. I know Bob passed away about 2 years ago now so maybe he's watching over the games, he used to play a lot of softball himself in his younger years for the RC Cola team based in Middleport that Gene Wise coached and then for the Foodland teams in later years.
