Seventeen members of Gallia Academy High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame Committee held its second meeting of the year in the school cafeteria on Tuesday, May 24.
In March, the HOF committee announced the 2011 Hall of Fame induction ceremony would be held on Friday, Sept. 16, prior to the Gallipolis-Marietta football game on Memorial Field. The 2011 HOF banquet will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, in the GAHS cafeteria, beginning at 6:30 p.m. HOF committee officers for the 2011-12 school year will be voted on after the 2011 banquet.
Deadline for accepting nomination applications for the 10th annual HOF event is Friday, July 1. Individuals may obtain applications from the school’s website. Applications should be mailed to committee president Rusty Saunders, 2577, State Rt. 141, Gallipolis, Ohio, 45631.
The committee will meet on Tuesday, July 19, 6:30 p.m., at GAHS to vote on the 2011 HOF class.
Male applicants eligible for membership this year are those who graduated between 1925 and 1987. Female applicants eligible are those from 1975 to 1992.
The Park Front Cafe will cater this year’s HOF banquet on Sept. 17.
David Tawney will take care of the 2011 HOF plaques this fall.
The committee approved a minor change in alignment with the group’s by-laws. The group will also award nine $75 athletic scholarships to graduating seniors during 2011 graduation ceremonies this spring.
The committee is searching for a picture of the late Danny Howard, who was inducted into the GAHS HOF several years ago.
President Saunders told the group that there are 10 active applicants on record, 12 others who have not been selected and five others that need to be renominated. Three were renominated. Current applications will be placed in the Bossard Memorial Library for committee members to review according to Saunders.
Next committee meeting will be held Tuesday, July 19, at 6:30 p.m., in the GAHS cafeteria. New officer nominations will be sought at this meeting.
Attending the session were: Rusty Saunders, committee president; Tom Morgan, committee secretary; Jim Osborne, Tim Massie, GAHS principal; Hobart Wilson, Jr., Jim Noe, Sarah Evens-Moore, Lori Young, treasurer; John Milhon, Renee Barnes, Jack Payton, school superintendent; Tom Meadows, Craig Wright GAHS athletic director; Brent Saunders, middle school principal; Tom Moore, Jerry Frazier, GAHS Booster Club president and Keith McGuire.
