Also too add when Baller has fought with a few people I know that Lelsie has stepped up this year and should be part of the starting 5. Many were saying he didn't deserve it and he stood behind him. Lelsie is good in my opinion and deserves his spot but I mean he is not the best player on Western's team and if he can shut Tibbs down man I would hate to see Bobbie or Vince guarding him.

I am a parent from Western, but not of a boy player. I played for Western and have not missed a single game for the last 4 years. I was at the Symmes Valley game and Jacob did play an awesome game against the Tibbs boy. He may not be a high scorer but he was doing his job, the same way Zach Kier did his when he played for Western, he was the silent player that no one seemed to want to talk about until he did something wrong. So kudos to Jacob. I will admit that Smithson has stepped up which is great considering we are getting ready to head into tournaments. Vince Shanks stepped up in the SV game too. He played a very strong game under the bucket, which he needs to do every game. I think Vince or Smithson could get POY. I have yet to see why Tibbs should get the honor, he has not impressed me. When he scores high it is against weak teams.

Also I have great respect for Eastern and their fans. It is a cross county friendly rivalry.

I think Western will win this one.

Go Big GREEN

Never once did i say that leslie was not good... What i was refering to was that he does not use his feet to play defense... Therefore i dont consider him a great defensive player... Having said that, Mccloud and the people who play now are no comparison... That team would have walked over the teams who play now... The night that Jeremy scored 6 in the holiday classic, we won didnt we... I was on that team and we won that year... Tibbs had 8 and they lost by 5 right????? One player cant make a team win... But if he shoots to much he can make them lose... If i would have shot as many as he does i would have scored over a thousand, actually Phil would have sat me on the bench...

When i played against eastern i hated everyone on that team, but now that i am out i have become friends with several of them and have come to respect there coach and there players... If anything i feel that fans and parents dont respect our coach enough... I give harrop 100% of my respect and wish him a good season...

This thread turned an odd direction. Shanks is very good. Smithson has stepped up. Penwell has stepped up at times. The help for Shanks has made Western very good.

But, I don't care what the Leslie kid did one night I am telling you Tibbs is easily the best player in the SOC1. The difference is he doesn't have a Smithson and Penwell on his team.

I can't believe there is not something about this game posted yet. I know it was a tri-header fresh, JV then Varsity. Surely it is over by now?

A pretty good ballgame tonight in Latham...Eastern jumped out to a 15 point lead early but then Penwell started lighting it up!! I believe he hit 4 three pointers in the 1st half on his way to a 17 point performance,he really kept Western in the game in the 1st half. They went to the half tied at 38.The 2nd half was all Western as they outscored the Eagles by 16!I believe Shanks led all scorers with 21 points and also added 15 rebounds. In my opinion Chris Penwell was player of the game as Eastern could have easily ran away had it not for him catching on fire.Don't know exact stats fpr Eastern but I know Thornsberry had a pretty good game scoring wise.Western's press hurt the Eagles tonight, and Western hit there shots. All in all,a pretty good game.Eagles need to bounce back tommorow at home against Kris Tibbs and Symmes Valley.Western will try to win the league outright Saturday as they host the 2nd place East Tartans.Eastern falls to 9-7 (8-4),Western improves to 13-4 (11-1).

Congrats to the Western Indians on clinching atleast a share of the 08-09 SOC title!!

for all you western fans that thinks chris tibbs is not very good at western he had 18 points high score of game and 21 rebounds against a box and one differnce between the game at western and the game at symmes leslie was aloud to hang on to the jersee and arms of tibbs so tibbs done what his team needed let his team mates score and never complained.you need to tell your coach tibbs is no good so he can quit putting special deffense just to stop him, your coach is smart he knows tibbs has been the high scorer against every team in the league atleast once not just weak teams,as for max preps it goes by fg% not the # of points and your average points a game so shooting more might not get you a higher ranking i dont think anybody on this thread knows anything about basketball, good thing your coach does.also if any of the players from western get poy they probably deserved it the same if tibbs or any other player gets it in our league there is alot of good players in the league not just from western

GO EAGLES---LETS GET IT STARTED TONITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never said I thought Western has won the league.IF they win tonight I believe they clinch atleast a tie.As I put in another post,it is going to get interesting if the Eagles do win tonight!

Yes, you pretty much did when you said the POY would probably come from the team who wins the league and you predicted Shanks as POY---doesn't matter anyway---we lost tonight so we are out of the running.

Eagles won't win too many games against tough opponents unless they find a way to utilize Osborne more in the offense---whats happened??? this kid was averaging close to 20 a game and now he is barely shooting--he is not driving the ball-heck his team doesn't even look for the pass to him even when he is wide open---evident there are no designed plays for him---I even heard his coach last 2 games yell at him when taking certain shots and to pass---he has proven he can score--why not let him. I have watched this kid from a youngster til now and he is better than 7-8 points a night. Look at Easterns last 3 losses, Osborne not in the offense. He acts intimidated to shoot, shots look frustrated, etc. He is a smart ball player--he knows when to shoot and when to pass---I don't think anyone can call him selfish by any means, but he certainly is not playing his potential. Eagles also look tired and wore out--no hustle as in first half of season---no passion to win---whats happened???

No I am not a parent, personal friend, or relative of any sort, but I am an avid Eagle fan for years now and I want to see them win---they are capable, but coach is gonna have to make some changes and that needs to include the Osborne kid more in the offense as in the first half of the season or tournaments will last one game.

bystander, I am not an Eagle but I can understand your frustration if your team doesn't play like you want. I do have to say from all that I hear your team has overachieved this year if anything. The Osborne kid is a great athelete and scorer but not a traditional "shooter" in a basketball sense. The only way your team has had a chance to succeed at all this year is by playing team ball. When they do--with passion--they seem to win. I think your players need to ask themselves if they are giving 100% all the time (the last Clay game). I looks to me like your new coach is doing a good job with what you have out there. A good team with no stars is tough to defend against. Good luck and I'm sure I'll see the Eagles at the convo!

First ---I really don't want anyone to get the wrong impression here---I am all about "team"--but anyone who knows the game knows every team has players who are looked upon to score----Piketon has Smith, Western has Shanks/Smithson, Oak Hill has JD Hale/Ondera, Symmes Valley has Tibbs, Northwest has Leslie, and I could go on and on---Their teams use them!!! The point is they are not utilizing this kid to the asset he can be for them---All those other teams use the guys who can score; Osborne can score!!! Traditional shooter is not the point--he knows how to and can score for them. He's proven that. There is nothing selfish in that statement--it is fact!!! So it stands to reason---how bad do they really want to win---AS A TEAM---you do whatever it takes--"I believe a few years ago Easterns team motto was "whatever it takes" well it worked then because they won SOC back to back years with that thinking. They had "go to guys" and they also had guys who knew and played their roles--we don't and who's fault is that?? Obviously we are a different caliber team now, but I still believe this team could be more successful. This second half they simply have not used Osbornes ability to score for them.

You comment that they have played team ball---some of them have, but a couple do not and that kills us most games--especially when one trys to do the heroics and take 1 on 4 all the time. Maybe you haven't been to many of the Eastern games---I have and this is what I see and also everyone else sitting in the stands. I said early on that this would catch up with us and it has.

Yes as a fan it is very frustrating to see them take this turn especially now when it matters most. And I do not agree with your statement that they have over achieved the first half--if they could play like that then they can play like that now---they are the same group of boys. Their potential is better and I hope to see them at the Convo. But they have to want it and they don't give the impression right now that they do. I do agree that we are not seeing 100 % from them right now. They need motivated!!! Hope Coach can find a way to do that---we're running out of time.

EAGLES I BELIEVE YOU CAN DO----"WHATEVER IT TAKES""---"DO WORK" and you'll get there.

Good luck tonight against Symmes Valley.

I think 99% of Eagle fans would agree we have over achieved.I am absolotuely thrilled at where we stand right now! I don't think to many expected us to be in contention for the SOC this year but these kids played hard all year and proved alot of people including myself wrong!! They have exceeded my expectations and others as well! Great job this year Eagles!! Hope we make some noise in the tourney!! As for the 1on 4 comment bystander made,I have no idea who or what he is referring too,I think these boys play well together!!
