Peebles vs. Green 2/17

Post by bucknut 23 »

Peebles defeated Green Tuesday night at Peebles by the score of 95 - 51. It was 53 - 22 at halftime. Blake Justice led the Indians with 40 points, including 29 points in the first half. He also nailed seven 3's in the game. That is games of 39, 30, and 40 in his last three outings. Tyler Arnold also hit several threes in the game and had to have been near 20 points on the night and Tyler Caudill had to be close to that as well. Nathan Stephens had a solid game coming on the heels of his career high at Manchester on Saturday night. Andrew Seaman sat out the game to rest his injury.
A big highlight of the evening was Michael Walls who hit a FT in the last minute of the game. I'm not sure if that was his first varsity point or not, as I haven't been to every game this year but it was great to see him score in person. Michael is just such a great kid !!!

For Green # 35 was very impressive in the game as he hit several threes during the contest. The Peebles faithful appreciated his efforts as they gave him a nice ovation when he came out late in the game.

Nice win Indians! It was alot of fun to watch. Blake was hot! Nate had a great floor game and he really stepped up when they needed him. Good team effort by all!

You're absolutely correct as it was a great team effort tonight. The passing was outstanding especially the interior passing. TC had several nice moves underneath the basket.

Blakes last 3 offensive performances has me wondering about how close he is to his 1000th point. I know he scored over 500 last year. Do you know :?:

Good observation. He's definitely averaging over 20 a game this year so for 17 games this year that would be 340 if he's right at 20/game. My guess is he's a couple points on the average above 20, though. He should be getting close and with any kind of tournament run at all that would put him over 1000. Not too bad for a sophomore.

The one thing I've noticed as the season has progressed is Blake's passing skills have become much better. He's not forcing shots and just getting them in the flow of the game and the flow of the offense. He's also hitting the offensive boards more and he had three or four "stick-backs" tonight.

I agree bucknut, the Peebles fans were very classy, pretty much after the first quarter, they just clapped for their team, nothing more and the ovation for the Green player was nice.

We all talked last week about the lack of class that Fairfield showed Peebles. What about maybe calling the dogs off of Green a little earlier (maybe around halftime). No chance of Green threatening your lead in the 2nd half.Peebles could have played the second string the whole half to try and develop for the tourney run.Peebles has lost 3 games this year and i think all 3 losses have come from tired legs. This is what will cost Peebles come tourney time. When you run in to a team like N.A. it will show. Both times Peebles took N.A.deep into the 4th quarter only to wear down.Any thoughts?

It appeared to me that non-starters Collier, Meade, Countryman, and Josh Linnert all got quite a bit of time on the floor. Starter Andrew Seaman didn't even play in the game at all and starters Stephens and Caudill maybe played half the game. The other JV kids had already played a whole game. There was no pressing. I thought it was handled very well.

jayhawks I don't think there is a comparison with this game and the Fairfield game. I didn't see any attitudes, taking cheap shots, kicking kids in the head when they are on the floor, none of that. It was just the opposite. Green kids continued to play hard and both teams helped each other up and all of those things. Peebles kids basically just played.

From my thinking, I feel Coach Lawhorn wanted to get his starters a lot of work in without Andrew Seaman being in the lineup. He held him out completely in this game which was an excellent idea. He appears to be okay injury wise now, but what happens if it gets to a point where he can't go. Peebles might have a game in the tournament where he is gets it aggravated.

I agree with shljunkie about the substitutions. Peebles only played Stephens and Caudill about half the game and it was a good opportunity to get Eric Collier a lot of minutes. Andy Countryman (a sophomore) got some quality minutes in the game and played some in the second quarter and then also in the third and fourth quarters. Josh Lennart played quite a bit in the third and fourth quarters as did Evan Meade. Justice and Arnold did play into the fourth quarter but I think Coach Lawhorn wanted a little bit of leadership on the floor at that time to go along with the younger/non-starting players.

shl junkie, I think i seen 3 starters on the floor with 3:30 mins to go in the 4th quarter.I guess the the lead was still in jeopardy.I am just saying if you can give the starters a 1 or 2 min break come tourney time it will pay off in the long run (Athens is a awful big floor). You have to be 8 or 9 deep to make a good tourney run.It could be the same old scenario if Peebles meets Alexander or N.A..

If you've been paying attention the last several games, that has been happening. Guys are getting minutes here and there and resting, which as you say, is a good thing. And I think that occurred last night as well.

Meade and Collier are the only ones getting brief stints in the games.Peebles is still not deep enough. It will show at the Convo.I dont count the last 1 min of the game as playing time.If you can live with the short tourney run, I can too!

Just make sure you get past Portsmouth first. I hope you do, but it's not going to be easy.

I don't know Jayhawks, but you can only go as deep as you have talent/ability there, you can't make it appear from nowhere. Guess we could go up in the stands and get some of the varsity girls to give us a rest? Resting Andrew Seaman was a good thing to do to prepare for down the road. Guess the only thing I would maybe have done differently is played Stephens and Collier more because as we've seen, you're going to need them down the road. It's very easy to coach from the stands though.

Resting Seaman was smart.Playing Collier more,I agree(you will need him down the road).Stephens is ready! The last 4 games has showed that.Junkie, sometimes I question your knowledge of the game (as much ball as you say you watch).I think i might understand the game just a little bit better.

Maybe you need to head up to practice tonight, wait a minute, how about lets skip practice and you can take John Lawhorn in the back room and give him a coaching clinic, share your knowledge with him.
