Player of the Year - TVC Ohio
Re: Player of the Year - TVC Ohio
Meigs took it to them no doubt, but VC and Alex weren't as far away from the other teams as you think. VC only beat Athens by 2 both times they played. Also they were tied with Belpre going into the 4th quarter...The Meigs game was a shocker to Alexander, but they need to rebuild and gain some momentum going into the tournament.
Re: Player of the Year - TVC Ohio
Prater did not play against Belpre at Belpre, that was a huge difference. But as for MVP, an MVP award should be rewarded to the player that means the most to there team. Look at Steve Nash, he was not the best player in the NBA, but he won the MVP award because he meant more to his team than anyone else in the league that year. If you take Greg Frost off of Alexander's team, they lose that leadership, they lose their PG, they wont be as good of a team without him. Take Prater off of VC, and VC is still dominant, they proved that. Meigs proved by taking Frost out of the game, Alex is just another TVC team.

Frost is not just a guard. The kid can play any position, and play it well. There is not a stat column that is empty for him at the end of even his mediocre games. He rebounds like a forward, has court vision, passing ability and ball control of a point guard, and constantly displays qualities on the court that lead his team by example. As he goes, so does Alex go. By the way, I can't say I have seen anyone on any team better than him on defense, either. There several players in the league that are on par with Frost, but he takes a back seat to nobody defensively.
I like a full stat column, clear across (without turnovers of course). That wins ballgames most days, and THAT describes an MVP.
My humble opinon.

Re: Player of the Year - TVC Ohio
It does not matter "where his team would finish without him" or "who won the league" , etc. etc...
The MVP is the most valuable player in the league. Not most valuable player on their team. They have their own awards from their team...
It's like a draft. If you were starting a new team, who is the player you would pick first. That in a nutshell is your best (POY or MVP) player in the league.

The MVP of the TVC-Ohio should go to Greg Frost.
And not that this means anything (as far as MVP goes) but he comes from a great family. It's nice to see players who have so much family supporting them at every game.

I have to agree with you GW.

IMO Greg Frost Alexander , Coach of Year - Matt Combs, not even close considering the job he done this year.

I'm curious, who do you think should get it on the girl's side?

Not so sure that is an easy one. Not if you are picking the best player. I can think of several coaches with a legit argument for sure. Athens , Wellston and Belpre probably the only ones that do not have somebody that could be a POY candidate. Just my opinion though. That should be a heckuva all league team.

I will abstain from this argument as I know Greg Frost and his family very well, great people. Jake Prater, I have watched grow up and his mother is a very good of friend of mine, and Jake's late father, John, was indeed a great friend and a great friend of Vinton County. I will only say this, I have nothing but the complete confidence in Coach Gabriel and especially Coach Combs, they will do the right thing.
Re: Player of the Year - TVC Ohio
I will have to give my vote to Greg Frost from Alexander...as a 3rd year starter, he really stepped up and played his game. For the girls side, Kim Kline without a doubt from Nelsonville York. Coach of the Year....Combs from VC!
I will bet you anything to my name those three recieve those three awards!!!!

Can't they co-it-up? Hell just some years ago they had 3 players win the award.

Yes, they did. It would have been 2004-2005 season. Chris Bethel of Vinton County, Jake Hale of Alexander and Trevor (I think) Adams of Belpre won TRI-POY for the TVC-Ohio. That created a lot of buzz on this forum for some time.

The all-TVC lists, both Hocking and Ohio Divisions and both boys and girls, are not released until all teams are out of the tournaments.
They have to be released by the league to the media. That won't happen until all teams are out.

Travis Morris was the kid from Belpre that was POY with Bethel and Hale.
