Some stats.
Zanesville 56 points on 60 % shooting
Chilli 44 points on 39% shooting
Prati 24
Van Volkinburg 14
smith 12
Knights 8
Chilli 33 % on their 6 free throws
Zanesville 71% on theirs. ( around 12, or 13 I think)
Rebounds slightly favored Zanesville I think and both teams finished with 9 turnovers.

Here are my thoughts from the game tonight...

First, the game was not as close as the score. Not close at all. Chilli was outhustled, outmanned, and outeverythinged. Zanesville it seemed, didn't miss a shot untill midway threw the the second quarter.

Joe Prati... Wow. Had the opportunity to witness him 2 or 3 times last year against a couple different teams and I thought that he was a big kid with some promise. THIS YEAR he was a MAN. He is a legit 6'6'' high school center with small forward athleticism. The way he handled the ball and moved without it was amazing. Facing up against shorter defenders and making basically lay-ups and shots within 6 feet is one thing, but pulling up at the free throw line and even draining a three is not something I EVER IMAGINED I'd see out of him. He is not close to the best H.S. player I have seen(as I have seen Oden, Conley, Cook, Mullens, Buford, Diebler, Koufos, Hitchens, Aronhalt, Gates, just to name a few.) , but IMO that is the biggest improvement I have seen from one year to the next in a player. The kid wants the ball and boy did he deliver. Great work out of him. Curious as to wether he is garnering any interest though?

#14(Dixon, I think) and #4(don't know the name.) were great guards. I was impressed by the way both of them handled the pressure of the cavs and in general managed the game and knocked down some very tough contested shots.

The Cavs... With the exception of Van the man Volkinburg and AT TIMES Smith they played terribly. I don't want to blame it on "tired legs" as I'm sure lots of people will say. The Shots just weren't dropping(which could well have been tired legs, but at this point in the season, there are no excuses.) and the defense wasn't rotating well enough. The Devil Guards beat the cavs pressure all night and I don't know if thats from fatigue or if Zanesville was just that fast. The Cavs only shot 6 free throws and I don't think it was because of the refs. The refs allowed the kids to play and the Cavs settled for too many jump shots and didn't attack enough.

I will probably have some more later but right now I'm a little at a loss for words.

that was one boring game..chilli showed no emotion. you can tell, the cavs are dead tired....officials were decent in the varsity game. i felt sorry for both teams in the jv game. that old ref, oh my, he had no clue on the rules... he tossed 2 zv fans, which even brought boos by the cav fans...he was a whacko...

Congrats to Zanesville. they put on a clinic for Chillicothe tonight. the blueprint is out there for team on how to shut down Chillicothe's offense and the ville executed it to perfection tonight.

Chilly is not a good outside shooting team, everyone knows that. besides Dawes and only Turner when he gets hot, there really is just about zero perimeter shooting. Teams are sagging in that zone and daring the Cavs to shoot. If Seth has an off game, we don't stand a chance. Our only chance of beating good teams that play this defense is if Michael and Seth both get their jump shot going. But besides missing jump shots, we are struggling to make layups as well. we just simply cannot put the ball in the hoop right now.

a zanesville coach said something in the post game interview that i think was a great sign of how well Zanesville was prepared and executed their gameplan. He said the key to stopping Chillicothe was to limit their run-outs. Limit the amount of easy baskets they get off their defense. They did a tremendous job of that tonight. I can't remember more than one or two fast break buckets for Chilly. They made them work to get the ball up the floor and work to score in the half court. That really wore the Cavs out and took away some of the intensity of their defense.

which brings me to my next point: there is no passion or intensity coming from the Cavs right now. Pick your reasoning for that, but they are simply looking lathargic and playing carelessly and without any energy.

Simply a poor performance all together. I was hoping to see a hungry team wanting to prove that the other night was a one time deal. but instead i saw a team that looked confused and not real sure if they wanted to be on the court or not.

Gymratt-if you had seen Prati last year against Warren Harding at the Schott, you'd know he was very capable of a game like tonight. I think last year he had the same abilities he just didn't take initiative to be the predominant option for the Blue Devils. This year, they seem to be leaning on him more, and he seems to be delivering.

Congrats on the win Zanesville. it was much deserved. Tuesday night i felt like the Cavs gave the game away. Tonight i felt like they were dominated by a better team.

DShanton: I was actually at the Zanesville and Warren Harding game andas I said I saw a kid with good potential but not anything near what I saw tonight. Honestly I was not much into the game for one reason or another as I was looking forward to the Cavs playing later in the day, but I didn't see it. Anyway, great post. I totally agree with everything.

Oh yeah the one white ref during the JV game made himself look like a fool. The other two refs, I have seen before, and they are good refs, but the other one was a joke. First he Teed up Zanesville's coach and I didn't see him do or say anything. Maybe he did but I didn't see it. Then he missed a call against Chilli and many Zanesville fans jumped up and yelled what amounted to, "that's a bad call" and he, for some reason tossed two of them. I don't know what they did different than anyone else. I also don't think anyone else deserved to be tossed. He then ran across the court to the Chillicothe side and said "I'll clear the gym if any of you misbehave. This is the kids' game not yours" I remember that exactly as I was in the second row 5 feet away from him. IMO no one on the Zanesville or Chilli side did anything to warrant getting ejected.

I know this isn't as important, but later, he called a charge on a player from Chilli and didn't even give the right signal. It was close but he just kinda pointed the other way down the court without the hand behind the head thing. He was so bad that one of the refs that was working with him was sort of making fun of him while he was on the other side of the court during a dead ball. The other ref said somethin to some Chilli fans about, you guys better be careful this crazy guy is givin out T's and ejecting people a]out of the stands.

Just before I go to bed, I had to post on the beating the Cavs took tonight.

1) The Cavs had a hangover from Tuesday and it showed. I did not see it in their eyes, and though some say don't blame the tired legs, I believe it contributed. Zanesville gameplaned us to a tee. Zanesville outshot us. Zaneville out hustled us.

2) However, on a positive note, we cannot play any worse. We got it down to five, but the two guards for Zanesville hit some unbelievable shots that were defended. Zanesville shot 60% from the field to our 39%. We are not far off our season shooting % and we missed way to many bunnies.

3) Joe Pratti is a stud and I don't think that is a secret. He was an unsung hero last year due to the Senior studs that Zanesville had. However, I saw him against Warren Harding at the Schott and he was basically the only Blue Devil that showed up like they normally do (and they still almost won). I also witnessed him beat Chillicothe in the DOC last year. Many people won't remember but he light us up for 16 last year and dominated the paint. As the cut down the nets at the "Hat", I told him that he won the game for Zanesville. My good friend said that "Pratti is a Dog" in that he was a "Bull Dog" and bite and kicked our butt. We had nothing for him tonight. He is an exceptional kid and player.

4) Many willl feel the Cavs will get it handed to them on Saturday. I believe if we can get our mental focus and get over the fatigue factor, we will be in the game. Zanesville blew us out tonight, but we still held them to 56 points. The reason....We actually controlled the boards. I thought VanVolkinburg played an excellent game and I thought our bigs (despite getting bascially nothign underneath) did rebound well. If we can get Zanesville under 50% shooting and then make some layups, then it is anybodys game.

5) I will be glad when Saturday is over. The kids have not faced this much adversity in a long time. We lost two in a row early, but we were not playing any games. Now we play 8 games in 14 days (plus another quarter plus in OT). We play 4 of those games on the road in a 8 day stretch and we have a few kids who have been sick. No excuse but it is a grind. We get one week off after Saturday and I look forward to the kids getting their legs back. I also feel sorry for who ever we get in the first round of the Sectional. IMO Coach K. will have these kids ready. We learned this week, you cannot turn it on and off. You have to compete every minute of every game. For various reasons we did not, but guess what.

On Saturday we get a chance to play for the SEOAL DOC championship for the 3rd year in a row. We get a chance to play one of the top programs in the State for the championship for the 3rd year in a row. We then get to move to Post Season and try and get a Sectional Title and move on to our favorite place (the Convo).

Ladies and Gentlemen, you know what they tell us at the Convo. It is about that time.

GO CAVS!!! YOU HAVE HEART AND WE WILL SHOW IT!!! YOU ARE MY GUYS!!!

Just a side not on the JV game. Very entertaining game from both the kids play and the officials actions. I know him pretty well and he takes his role serious. I don't know what the fans said, but I thought it was over the top to throw them out. Maybe a first in the "HAT". Fans removed by official during the JV game and then the Home fans are chastised as well.

GO CAVS!!!

tough loss for the cavs went to the game was not impressed.cavs looked tired and it shows but if you played 8 games in 15 days you would be asking for a bed and the do not disturb sign.when your champions of d2,you take any challenges that comes in front of you.

the day of champions is around the corner hopefully the cavs take down the devils and then they can get some rest for the tourney

ZBD,

That is good they let the guy back in. I mentioned in to our principle. He was unaware what had happened. Sounds like a voice of reason came through. I am not sure the JV coach deserved a techical.

Great game plan by you guys and as you well no. Mr. Pratti is a beast. Better then adverstised and then some. Hopefully the early season losses don't take away from the excellent season and career he has had.

We will be there and give it our best. The Cavs are in a funk right now, but as Coach K. said in the paper, these kids somehow find a way to play up in big games. Not discounting last night, but the game was a feeling out process. I am not sure Coach A. showed everything and Coach K. played it very conversative and actually got some rest for the starters in the middle of the game. I expect they will live on the court tomorrow night. Hopefully we shot and defend a bit better.

GO CAVS!!!

You guys are both right. I don't know what that guy did to get tossed. I was close and heard nothing other than "bad call". I don't think The coach deserved a T earlier in the game either. Unless he said something that no one else heard and he knew he deserved it, I am suprised at how cool he stayed. If I were T'd for nothing, I'd make sure to earn it afterwards.
