This is not a surprise at all. Belpre has the most athletic talent in the league but also the most attitudes. They have only won 7 game this year.

How do you know what these kids attitudes are? Do you know any of these kids ? How many games have you seen Belpre play and how can you attribute their lack of success to bad attitudes if you don't even know the kids?.Don't be so quick to blame it on the kids because it's not all their fault.
Re: Athens defeats Belpre 63-60
i know he is going to find this hard to believe.. but i am going to agree w/ a78. I left school and rushed up to watch the dogs play last night. I am not going to blame kids, due to fact if adults let things happen.....who do you blame for a young adults action. I saw them telling the coach no, fussing the entire game, seemed that there was no chemistry. i will say this, i felt that belpre was the most athletic team by far. That is not knocking athens, but a fact. So i am not blaming anyone, just being a fan and watching.
Was happy for those seniors for athens. when was last time they had won on a senior night?
Good luck to both teams

Belpres lack of success is due to coaching. These kids want to win, and they have won there whole lives. That junior class at Belpre has never lost 11 games in one season and i guarantee you that. Dating back to middle school where you played over 50 games. They have no discipline as a team. Every player just goes out and does whatever he wants. That is due to lack of coaching. The kids know they can tell the coach no and get away with it, so they do it. Truth is, Coach Plummer is not a good coach. I have been saying it since last year. He just doesnt have the tools to be a good basketball coach. Plain and simple. Those kids had attitude when they played for Stout, did they ever tell him no? haha, you better believe they didnt. Belpre could have all the talent in the world, but the coach has to know how to use his talent. Another thing is, i would be playing Pat Slattery over Channing Parsons. It is sad to see what Plummer is doing to Belpre Basketball. I remember in middle school, there used to be 12 or 14 rec teams...now there is only 4 or 5. Hes not just hurting high school basketball, hes hurting Belpre Basketball all they way down to middle school. Belpre cant have a freshman team because they dont have enough kids to come out to play JV. Come on, Belpre only has 7 JV players...and 4 dress varsity!!! I hate how people just sit back and watch Plummer ruin a great tradition. BOE needs to wake up. The fans arent even filling the stands...a few years ago games would be sold out, people would have to stand on the stage to watch the game...now they are luck to get 300 people in there, the 6th man is non-existent. They sit down in the second half of games. Its sad to see how low Belpre Basketball has dropped in 2 years.
Re: Athens defeats Belpre 63-60
Ok lets blame the coach for not cutting the attitudes and for putting up with the fussing and players telling him no. He should have stepped up and cut those kids and lived with it. I've seen them twice and they've acted the same and I have friends at Alex and they saw the same thing. You also have parents telling them what to do from the stands, and yes I've heard them telling their kids what to do. I'd say if they made two or three sets of parents stay away from the games that would help make the team better and more easy to coach. No coach stands a chance of success at Belpre as long as that group of kids and parents are involved. Again cut the poison kids and you'll listen to it for a week or two and then your done. Keep them and you deal with them and their parents all year. So I guess we do blame the coach. Also you can't play 50 games in Middle school not even if you but both years together. You may be talking about biddy league basketball which some of the bad apple parents probably coached. I wish Coach Plummer well but next year get rid of the poison early.

A point of interest here...
Belpre stopped having 9th grade basketball when Stout was the head coach, not Plummer.
Best of luck to Belpre tonight against Wellston.
Lets Go Eagles!!!

Re: Athens defeats Belpre 63-60
Do you think it is an accident that one of Warren's best former players is now Belpre's coach?
Heck no, this is a well conceived plan to destroy Belpre's B-ball program, that was hashed out secretly by a select few Warren faithful years ago.
I cannot name names of the folks behind this master plan for fear of retaliation, but I will tell you this.......the plan has worked out far better than any had hoped.
Curt, if you are reading this, stop by the house sometime this week or next. We have a nice fat reward for a job well done!

Mister B...So I take it you were not a Coach Stout fan?
Did they ever have enough players for a freshman team?

Re: Athens defeats Belpre 63-60
Stout had enough people to have a freshman team, he just chose not to have one. When Stout coached, Belpre had 10-12 JV players every year...and 9 or 10 varsity players and 2 usually dressed from JV team. Stout never only had a total number of 16 kids. He had 25+ kids out for the team every year.
Re: Athens defeats Belpre 63-60
I'll have to say that the problem with this team is discipline. Now the question is, who's fault is that? That's for you to decide, but I think it's a combination of both the coaches and kids.
See...sports are funny.....if the team is winning, who do you credit? If the team is winning, who do you blame? I learned that from one of my former coaches.
Belpre has always had a problem with discipline and egos, ever since I could remember. On the other hand, Belpre never lacked talent. I guess more often than not, the two go hand in hand.

Re: Athens defeats Belpre 63-60
you cant put it all on the coaches...are the coaches out there shooting the teams free throws....or shooting thier 3 pt shots....what im getting at is you cant completely blame the coaches...the players are the ones playing the game
Re: Athens defeats Belpre 63-60
Its the coaches job to get the kids prepared to play the game, and to discipline the kids on the court, and to teach the kids. As far as im concerned the coaches dont do any of that.
Re: Athens defeats Belpre 63-60
I watched Belpre play a handful of times when Stout was the head coach, and I do not remember seeing anything that resembled attitude problems or a lack of class....

Wow, this thread got out of hand. It really escalated. I think Brick killed a man.
