Russell has a big team around 55 players. They were physical last year, but I didn't see a lot of breakaway speed. They run a wing T similar to our T. They had a great kicking game. We have an advantage since its in Tanks. Most teams see those bright lights and hungry fans, and hand us the momentum.

Russel is a 3A Kentucky school, if they were in Ohio, they'd be a D-IV schoolYou're Tiger Bait wrote:thanks buddy. by any chance do you know their male enrollment, just curious what division in ohio they would be.

Unless russel brought in something diff than last season I gotta laugh when u say speed. Lol
Re: RUSSELL RED DEVILS VS. IRONTON FIGHTING TIGERS, THOUGHTS
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the last time Ironton lost to Russell was 34 years ago (1977)?
I know they haven't played every year, but that's pretty impressive.
Would this be considered a Ted Nugent "Stranglehold"?

u are correct. The Devils have a total of 3 wins over the Tigers, 1932,1933 and 1977. The teams played to a tie in 1931.....OVCfan wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the last time Ironton lost to Russell was 34 years ago (1977)?

Re: RUSSELL RED DEVILS VS. IRONTON FIGHTING TIGERS, THOUGHTS
i will take ironton, however anybody that thinks its gonna be like last week is drinking too much koolaid. i havent seen russel play but if you look at the roster you will see that they have a bunch of kids out. no freshmen. they have depth and they have size and they have 12 seniors on the roster and 22 juniors, and it would appear they have some speed. on top of all that they have a coach over there who has been around almost as long as our coach and he knows a little bit about physical football and has a state championship to his credit. one advantage russell does not have this year is that this is only their 2nd game of the season just like ironton. in years past it has alwasy been tougher playing the ky schools early because they would start a week or 2 earlier and be playing their 3rd or 4th game where as it would be irontons 2nd week. irontons likely will have to play better than they did last week on the offensive side of the ball. it should be a good game and if we can hang on to the ball and not shoot ourselves n the foot with penaltys and turnovers. i look for ironton to pull away late. but i promise you this is a game russell has circled on the schedule every year. mcglone will have them ready to play.

I believe our extra point kicker was 2 for 2 in attempts when we actually tried kicking a PAT correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe our kicking game will be alright, time will tell.
Interesting, I was at practice yesterday except for a couple bad snaps or ball positions he was nailing it. He even lined up and kicked a 30 yard Field Goal and made it.
