Re: Valley 99 Minford 82
I don't know where to begin! I can't believe nobody posted on this tonight. Valley started out or I should say Zach Utley started out with "24" points in the first quarter. He hit a half court shot to end the quarter and Valley was up I think 17 after 1. 34-17 or something like that. Cunningham and Arbaugh chipped in as did the team defense in the second. But Utley stayed hot as well. He had 32 at the half and Valley was up 20 or so at the half.
Meanwhile Shaun Smith was lighting it up for Minford. A great player, he had a decent 1st half. Minford came to play in the 2nd half. Price is a great point guard. I have seen few this year play better off the dribble. Minford stayed in the 15 point down range.
But Valley was just on fire. Unbelievable! Valley was 23 of 36 from the field. 12 of 23 from 3!!! And an incredible 16 of 19 from the free throw line. Minford cut it to 11 late but never got closer. Shaun Smith had 32 for the Falcons. Utley had an amazing 44 yes, 44 points tonight. Treg had I think, 24. And Valley goes to 16-4 going into the tourney. Great game by both teams. Go Indians!!!!

Re: Valley 99 Minford 82
Looks like I posted on the wrong thread. This one wasn't here at the time I was writing on the other one, but oh well.
Re: Valley 99 Minford 82
I'm really excited for the Indians going into the playoffs. I hope Utley keeps commanding the respect from 3 that he got tonight. Arbaugh also. Because if they get that same respect throught the tourney, and are able to pass to the open man in Yates, Cunningham, or whoever else, this team could make a run! I'm fired up!!! Come on Coop!!! Tell me I'm right!!! 16-4 what a season.
Re: Valley 99 Minford 82
Sorry CMo, just got home! Nothing to be ashamed of from your Falcons. Good luck against the Trojans Monday.

This is CMo's post from another thread on the game.
Can't wait to read the comments about this one. Utley played the game of his life and well made up for neither team playing that much defense. Missed calls on both ends of the floor so I really don't see how one or the other team was "homered"? Your up 15 with 10 seconds to go and the ball goes out of bounds on a Minford player, at least it looked like to me, and almost all of the Valley fans start losing it because of it. Minford sure couldn't stop ball penetration inside and if they did they would have to collapse on the driver which led to a wide open 3 ball by usually Utley or Arbaugh. I'm not going to discuss any more of the bad things about the game though, don't feel the necessity of it. Just going to Congratulate the Valley Indians on a very successful season! Good year guys and good job to all of the seniors out there, wish em well & Good Luck in the tournament Indians, you guys play like you did out there tonight and your going to go a LONG way!
Now to the Falcons, we will have to step up the defensive end come Monday night in Waverly if we want to make it to the next round of the tournament that's for sure! It will be nice to rest the legs over the weekend and hopefully be able to come out fresh next week... I felt like I saw some good things but at the same time a LOT of bad things. Watch film over it and see what each of you did wrong and try and correct it that so you don't do it again! Well congrats to all of the seniors: Sean Smith, Evan Price, Hugh Brisker, Zach Gahm, and Caleb Smith! I don't think I missed anyone anyway, sorry if I did, but you guys have some unfinished business come Monday... The season is starting over and we are 0-0! When you guys take the floor Monday, make sure you leave everything out there! I won't be able to make it unfortunately, but i'm hoping to be going to a game next Friday night including the Minford Falcons in it... Also congrats to Minford's staff on gettin the team prepared each and every game and it resulting in a 13-7 season, but like I said the tournament is starting so it's a new ball game. I feel the coaches don't think the team is done so you guys better believe it also! Well that pretty much sums it up, Good Luck Falcons on Monday! Get a good weekend of practice and come out firing on all cylinders just like the Indians did tonight but make sure ya step it up on the DEFENSIVE end of the floor...
CMo, I took the liberty of posting this for you on this thread. Good comments. I hope you don't mind. I would like to explain the Valley fans at the end. Who doesn't want to see 100 points! I mean, that would have been cool. But what I thought was even better was the class Valley and Treg showed by "not" trying to score when he got the rebound with 7 seconds left. Plus Valley fans were still pretty hot about the Intentional foul on Treg with 2 minutes left.
But that doesn't matter. These 2 teams can do some damage in the Tourney. You can bet I'll be rooting for the Falcons as well. Smithh is great. And Price plays the point as well as anyone I've seen around here in a long time. Really fun watching Treg and Price go at it tonight from the point. Great game.

GREAT GAME INDIANS!! That's how you want to be shooting and playing heading into the tourney!!
Valley finishes 2nd in the SOC2 and goes 16-4 on the season!
I know in all the preseason threads they were NOT in the conversation, and no one picked them to win 16!!
Congrats and good luck in the tourney!!!

That's the D-5 I know and love! What did the Burg do tonight? Did they beat Waverly?
Re: Valley 99 Minford 82
What you guys do not know is The Burg put all of there best kids on the swim teams so they could make it to the state meet
Re: Valley 99 Minford 82
Great win by the Burg. And yes, I don't doubt that. What an impressive effort by the Burg and the swim team. Valley still has some left in that too. My buddy at work still has his son alive I believe for the state. Kyle McPheters. I'm thinking he's in the 50 or 100. Can't remember.

Re: Valley 99 Minford 82
If it wasn't for the refs Valley would have scored 170, they held Valley down all night.
Ok, seriously... I've been joking about the officials, because it is so fun to watch people get fired up.
As for the game... Zach Utley gave one of the best HS shooting performances I've ever seen. He has really struggled to find his shot and get in the rythm of game the last few weeks, but he found his stride tonight. Just an great performance by a good kid!
Arbaugh and Cunningham really carried Valley in the 3rd as Minford made a run and out scored Valley 31-28. The game was full of energy on the court and in the stands. It showed with both Arbaugh and McKnight, who both lost their heads for a second. That will happen from time to time.
On the Minford side, Price and Smith are ball players. I could easily see this team getting bye North Adams and Portsmouth to win the sectional. They are athletic, they have a little size, and me and pmow really like Price's game. He and Smith could really give teams problems.
On the whole, it was a great game to watch... A very typical Minford-Valley showdown with a not so typical score.

Re: Valley 99 Minford 82
^^^ There was a "little" D...Valley brought that with them..just enough to win by double digits and lead by them the whole game.
as far as officials, I've been fueling crabs fire!! LOL
