My props to N/A. I really thought P-Town was going to pull of an upset tonight. Sounds like a great game. Will be interested to read the post game threads from both fans.

Wow!!! Unger with 40. Any kid that can go for 30 in a heated game like this is special. When you go for 40, you got "ice in the veins" and "plenty of game". N/A probably just played the toughest 1/9 seed game in a long while.

Man...tough loss for the Trojans but Unger sounds like the real deal. This game probably shouldn't have happened until the District Finals. But maybe it's a lesson for these kids from Portsmouth to carry over to next year. You play as individuals and put yourself before the team, you lose, and lose bad (and consequently get a low seed). You play like a team the way you did in the tourney, and you can play with anyone.

While they'll miss Williams for sure, with Bendolph, Horne and Johnson back (assuming none of the transfer talk arises again in the summer), this team should be tough to beat next year. Once again though, nothing to be ashamed of for Coach Shoemaker and the Trojans.

And good luck to North Adams...I've always kind of rooted for them since seeing them gettin shafted in the state semis back in the mid-90s.*

hitchbone said it, Unger is special. To be at your best at the biggest time is the mark of special player and wow was he great for the Green Devils.

Great effort by the Trojans of Portsmouth. They gave all they had. Its ashame they were seeded at #9 and had to play North Adams because they would beat any other team in the Waverly sectional. Good job SVC coaches!

jayhawks, I would love to see North Adams and Peebles battle for the District Championship in Athens and your correct, Peebles is playing very good basketball. Kraig Unger and Blake Justice may be the best two players in the Southeast District Division III and it would be great for the kids to have that opportunity to showcase there talent to the rest of Southeastern Ohio.

I'm not sure who has recruited or offered Kraig Unger yet but I'm sure Rio Grande and the NAIA schools in the American Mideast Conference would love to have a young man of his character and talent.

Horns, I think if Unger would have bulked up in the offseason he maybe could have played another level up.Portsmouth really battled and it sounds like that program is on the rise.I hope so,I played summer ball with some of them back then and they had some powerhouses.

Super game, to bad somebody had to lose. IMO NA didn't beat the Trojans, the Trojans beat themselves. All those stupid fouls and careless turnovers was just too much to overcome. NA is a solid club, and Unger is unbelievable. But I bet Portsmouth is the best team they have seen this year.

this was the best high school basketball game I have seen for a very long time.

Portsmouth played as a team, and played a greast game, agaisnt a great team, that many didnt give them a chance at even being in the game, hats off to my Trojans, you played like true Trojans tonight, just came up a littl short on the score, but nothing to hang youre head abour.

I would guess thats the closest this North Adams team has come to losing this year.

I think that says something about the league and schedulke we play in.

congrats to Norh Adams on a great, hard fought win, and good luck.

Unger ?......what can you say?,,,Amazing player, probably the best we have sen this year

good luck to our seniors, and thanks for al the time and work you have put in.

Nice win for NA and a tough loss for Portsmouth. Wind and advance or lose and go home.

Just back from the game and what a game it was. The Trojans played a whale of a game. #23 and the big guy underneath played hard and gave North Adams everything they wanted and then some. Portsmouth did a good job of shutting down Jimison but they had no answer for Kraig Unger. Props to Rothwell and Nehus as well as they did a great job underneath.
This was one of the best high school basketball games I have ever witnessed. Neither team would allow the other to pull away. They battled each other to the end. Congratulations to both teams on a hard fought, nailbiter of a game. Shame either team had to lose.

You can thank the SVC coaches for that. They did what they had to do to take care of there own. This game should have been at the Convo.

Nah, not anymore rough than I thought.... but I didn't think my nerves were gonna hold up.

Great job boys!

A few days to prepare... they need a rest, but those long breaks aren't always good....

The record of a high school basketball team in the Southeast District obviously is not indicative of the team's capability. Unfortunately, not every coach understands that concept.

Portsmouth is one of the top two or three teams in the Waverly sectional but with politics the deserving does not always get rewarded.
