Lucasville Valley vs. Westfall 2/28 Sectional Championship

Post by coop »

Valley and Westfall both won by large margins in the opening round. Valley let West Union hang around in the first half before winning by 26 and Westfall never let Southeastern in the gym as they won by 49. This looks to be a VERY good game...

SVC #1 vs. SOC #2

Valley LOVES to pressure and RUN RUN RUN, I'm sure Westfall arrived early and watched most of the game.

GOOD LUCK VALLEY! Head to the CONVO!!

Hard to believe a game of this magnitude with two quality teams already meeting is a Sectional Final and one of these teams will be getting ready for baseball. Good luck to the Valley Indians.

I doubt Valley "let" West Union "hang around". West Union had something to say about it but in the end Valley was just the far better team.

Valley vs Westfall will be very interesting. I heard Westfall's coach on the radio after the game talking about the match-up. He was saying how Valley likes to get out and run and so does he so it will be a fast paced game. I think Westfall is a little bigger and stronger and should use that to their advantage instead of getting in a track meet with the Indians. This is a great matchup on Saturday.

The Valley/West Union game was not a complete blowout (although it was over) until West Union came out of their 2-3 zone and starting playing man to man which they had no chance at doing against Valley. It was a weird game to watch in the 1st half - Valley got into the paint almost every trip down but for some reason could not finish. I was completely amazed at how easy it was against West Union's zone to get into the paint (usually, that is the reason why you play a zone). I also expected to see better ball pressure from the guards. I hope Valley was not at 100% mentally/physically for this game or they will more than likely get beat by Westfall. Had to laugh a bit towards the end of the game as Valley stayed in their full court press until the very end with the coach still screaming "as if he was trying to cover the spread or something like Pete Rose".

Should be a good match up. Westfall is the Co-SVC Champs and Valley with they're run and gun style causes a tough match up for everyone. Should be worth the ticket price. ;-)

The PA and radio announcers better practice up on the numbers and names and maybe take a class in auctioneering! lol

Westfalls size might be the deciding factor in this one. Should be a fun one to watch, and I agree two very good teams meeting to win the Sectional!

I am an SVC fan, so I will take the Mustangs! Good luck to both.

I'd say with 11 turnovers in the first half, and multiple misses from within a few feet you're letting someone who is inferior to you..."hang around"

The game was a blowout from about the 6:00 mark in the 3rd...thats when Valley went up 14 and didnt look back. West Union played well, and gave it all they had.

As far as the press, that is how Valley plays basketball...whether it be all seniors on the floor, or all freshman....pressing is the Indians game. He was not trying to run the score up, I can assure you. West Union only scored 2 points in the 4th.

Valley could be in trouble due to Westfall's size. Yates needs more help on the glass if Valley wants to win this game. His rebounding was huge for Valley last night as it seemed he was pulling down every defensive board. Valley really has to create turnovers and find a way to get some easy buckets because Westfall's size will be tough to overcome in the half court. Valley also needs Arbaugh and Utley to continue shooting it well from behind the arc, and Treg can't afford to get in foul trouble again.

Valley has to play this game like they did against Oak Hill and Burg at home... they must force turnovers in order to have a chance. The guard play and rebounding will be the deciding factors for the Indians. They really can't allow Westfall to get too many offensive boards.

Although I agree with your statement, I did hear that most of the height that Westfall has does not play that much. Their starters for the most part are not that tall. But I still agree we have to rebound and create turnovers to win this game. Good luck Indians. We will be there rooting for you win or lose. Play Hard!!

We play that way no matter what. If you have a team like this where you are 8 and 9 deep, and they all play defense well and are up in your face, then you must finish that way. I know it can look bad in this case, but I would rather them come out and play hard until the end then to change strategy and not feel comfortable next game. Besides the spread was only 16 1/2 so he had that in the bag. Hopefully you didn't have the other side.

Our rebounding was pretty weak in the 1st half last night, it helped West Union keep it close. And we've had problems rebounding consistently... I just think that we have to do a better job this Saturday. We need to have 3 and 4 guys in there on the defensive end and not worrying about leaking out for the easy layup.

But I hope that Westfall plays a frantic up pace game, because I think this will give us an edge.

Jimmy,

You're right...Valley does a great job of getting into the paint w/out much size. Against Waverly (6'5, 6'5, 6'7, 6'4), they used great ball movement and efficient cutting to get great looks amongst the trees. They were able to finish against us at their place. I was really impressed with their progress from the first time we played. I haven't seen Westfall, but second place in the SVC this year is pretty strong.

I dont know about this year, but last year Westfall ran an uptempo game with all five players on the floor being very athletic. Sounds like this game should be a good one.

Agree with an earlier post. Exciting game but a bummer one has to drop out so early. This bracket is just loaded. After the first round...no such thing as an upset. Should be a barn burner Saturday afternoon!!

Go Stangs!

Valley`s biggest kid is 6-2, that plays alot . Every game they won they were the smaller team. This should be a great game with 2 teams that like to get up and down the court. Valley was probably a little tired after winning their last game of the season against county rival Minford putting up a huge number on them , it was a little hard for them to get up for West Union but look out saturday this could be the best game to watch in the entire tourney, this game will be fun.
