Re: TVC ohio Predictions!
As much as I hate to admit it Meigs has to be the frontrunner for the league title. NY always does a good job of reloading and Coach Boston will have the boys ready to go by the time league play rolls around. IMO NY lost too much to be considered the favorite. Stranger things have happened though.(see Belpre 2007)

Re: TVC ohio Predictions!
Ny should be a better team this season. RB- great. FB- solid. TE- solid .Line- young but improved. wr's- young( but does NY throw much?)Defense and QB is the only question.
Should be a fun year!

Thats what they said in 07, Ny was just fine. They can still run the ball and there D is still solid. Until they lose they are still the Favorites. The TVC-OHIO still comes through NY. Come get it TVC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: TVC ohio Predictions!
nybucks70-80 you have me nervous on my predictions. They are supposed to stone cold lead pipe locks. To say that the Buckeyes will be better next year, then state that Defense and QB is questionable is an oxymoron. You should have just said that they are NY and they don't rebuild, they reload and I would feel much better.
Re: TVC ohio Predictions!
NY will still be a team to reckon with but to consider them the favorite after graduating a qb, fb, wr, both tackles and a guard is a stretch. Then on defense you graduate both defensive ends, nose guard, defensive tackle, linebacker, corner and free safety. This team will be young and inexperienced in positions where experience matters a lot. To say in March that they will be better than the team that lost in the playoffs, by one point, to a state semi finalist is pretty bold. This team will have a lot of young talent but lets be realistic they need time to develop.

I said that they are still the team to beat in the TVC. I or know one else said they would be better than last years team. I am not saying that they will win 10 games. I am saying that they are going to win the TVC. There may be a loss mabe 2 in leage play but I think that they will still win the Leage.
Every year people say that NY won't be as good. Then every year those young men step up and prove themselves. Have some faith in our coaching staff and have some faith in the young men who will be stepping up to fill those positions. A lot of people thought NY's season was over when Talbert went down week 1. Those young men stepped up and carried the slack. NY lost a lot of fine seniors but there will be some pretty good under classmen ready to step up.
And lets face it Arnold only needs about 18 inches of daylight and he will find the endzone!!!!!!!!!!!

Umm yeah I said it!
The Buckeyes will be a better team this year than last. They lost linemen (this was not a strong suit last year anyway). Many time's Arnold was avoiding defenders in the backfield and broke free on his own.. They lost WR's...(How many times did they throw the ball last year?)...They lost DB's ( this was by far the weakest spot on the team last year- the young guys can do no worse). They return guys who played a lot last year and started due to injuries ( 3-4 linemen, RB, FB, HB, TE, LB, DL, NG, DE, CB, MB. and guys who will knock the crap out of someone, any chance they get.

Re: TVC ohio Predictions!
I do not agree that the line was not the strong suit last year. Arnold definetly had a standout year but those young men in front of him made a difference. You are losing 3 all league lineman along with a state alternate. I know the ones up in the front that work the trenches dont get their props, but they deserve it. With a rebuilt line can Arnold still reach 2000 plus. Time will tell. But those lineman from last year will be missed. I think Coach Boston would agree about the O line from last year.

He only had 1800 last year as if that wasn't enough. He will be very close to 2000 this year. Most of his big plays happened when the blocking broke down any way.

Re: TVC ohio Predictions!
Orange and brown, including the playoff game it was more than 1800, I checked into it. But if you feel the need to blame the line, then that is your opinion. The one thing I dont understand is everyone states we didnt pass the ball, so the teams almost always put 10 kids in the box knowing that. I saw that for myself, then it made their job even more difficult. Thank god he made those long gains on missed blocking assignments. Once again look at the awards that the boys who graduated had won. Replacing them will not come as quick as you may think. I hope Arnold does reach 2000 or more this year. I only state that he will have to work at it harder. To think kids can just step in there without a hiccup is asking a ton.

Read my posts!!!!
I never one time blamed the line. Those young men worked hard last year and will work hard this year. What I did say in a round about way was that the line daoesn't have to be great for Arnold to get yards. This last year was the best O-line we have had in a while and I do agree that it will take some time for the new line to gell, but they will.

How about we just let Derek 'truck - it - on - down - to - A-town' every day and he can become a Bulldog ... Im sure the Athens faithful won't mind having him suit up in the green and gold every Friday!

Nice try though.

Re: TVC ohio Predictions!
My Picks: (IMHO)
1. Athens - squeaks by everyone, maybe not dominates, but does enough to win. (plays NY and Meigs home this year-has to be a slight advantage)
3. N-Y- Because they will beat everyone except Athens (Has to play at Athens this year, worries me a bit)
3. Meigs
4. Wellston
5. VC
6. Alex
7. Belpre

Re: TVC ohio Predictions!
Ah, they may seem like they own it to some younger folk out there ...
But I do remember a time when Athens use to thump the Buckeyes on a regular basis ... the mid 80's, early 90's when Athens had players like the KOSTIVALS, THE ABDELLAS and the ADAMS' boys ...
Anytime Athens has been any where close to good, they have beaten NY ... Just look at the past 20 years. When SCOTT STRICKLAND was QB in 1988 & 1989, they beat the Bucks pretty easily ... then again in 1990 with BUBBA LICHTENBERG - same reults. When the Bulldogs put GRANT GREGORY behind center (and that team wasn't really a super great team finishing 7-3) they put an old fashion shellacking on the Bucks at Dave Boston field ...
Moral of the story is this ... sure NY beat Athens a bunch of times in the past decade or so ... BUT SO DID EVERYONE ELSE IN SOUTHEASTERN OHIO!!!!
The few times the DOGS were respectable or good, they beat the Bucks ... So maybe if Adams turns around the program (which he has been doing) we may see a 'changing' of the guard when it comes to NY thinking they can dominate Athens every year ...
* I think we all scene a taste of whats to come back in the fall ... The Bulldogs, who had a losing record - but possesed a fundamentally sound group of players - stepped onto Dave Boston field and darn near came away with a victory. Over a NY team that was in 1st place in the TVC-Ohio and was playoff bound .... If Harris doesn't throw that ball and Fox pick it off in the endzone, the Bulldogs would have won that game (and there isn't to many people that would disagree with that statement ... from NY or A-town)
If the BUlldogs can do that with a 4-6 team; what the hell is going to happen when they have a real good team that is capable of winning seven or eight games?
Some would say that has already been answered ... if you go back and look at the games in which Gregory was the QB or Strickland or Lichtenberg ... all have similar results and scores with A-town coming out on top.
If Adams can pull off what a lot of folks in and around Athens has been wishing for (a respectable football program) ... then we may be on the verge of seeing one heck of a rivalry between A-town and Bucks ... I mean, some folks from Nelsonville or Buchtel will say that's hogwash. Some of the young 'Bucks' think NY has always dominated Athens, and for it to be any different just won't happen.
But for those who know football and have been around awhile and scene a lot of area games ... knows that if Athens can sustain any sort of descent program, the football landscape will change dramatically around these parts ... And if this post doesn't at least get the 'nay-sayers' to think about the possibility of the Bulldogs hanging with the Bucks year in and year out .... well ... just go and review the tape of what transpired back in the fall ... and think about 'what could have been had Fox not stepped in front of that darn pass!' .....

I agree that Athens is comming around and is becomming a respecable football team. Last years game was great and if the coach had called a better play on the goal line then AHS might have won, but he didn't and they lost thats why the game is played until the final whisle. I really hope that this game gets more competitive over time. Athens winning it once a decade doesn't make for a good rivalry. Besides that darn trophy needs cleaned, maybe you win it you will clean it.

You guys were good with the Maxwell Brothers and had a lot of talent when Chad Thomas was in high school. I played baseball with those guys in the late 90's. It wasn't that there wasn't talent that's for sure. I hope the new coach can put it all together... just not when you play the Bucks!
