SEOAL 2009
Re: SEOAL 2009
I am certainly not trying to belittle anyones accomplishments because I have the utmost respect for the Logan program, but if they do pass Irontons record, then IMO there should be an asterisk. In 2006 they lost to league foe Chillicothe. Because of a scheduling flaw, the game did not count as a league game. Therefore, YES Logan has one however many games in a row that count towards the league standings, but NO they do not have however many wins in a row against league opponents.
Logan is the class of the SEOAL and has been for a while.
This year I predict
Logan, Chillicothe, Ironton to be the top three in that order followed by Portsmouth, Marietta, GAHS, Jackson, and Warren in some form.
Logan should go undefeated but COULD lose to Ironton and the Cavs. IMO no other team is even capable of beating them. A bad night against Ironton or Chilli though could mean a loss. Still, my money would be on Logan in both instances.

Ill make a guarentee right now. If the Ironton Tigers dont win the league and dont beat Logan they will leave the SEOAL and never come back. Loser leaves town. Thats all it comes down to this season for the Tigers.

If you are going out on a limb, then it must be a lower branch of a 75 year old oak.....cause Ironton is supposed to leave after this year anyway.

Details details I just make the guarantees I dont worry about behind the scene happenings.
Re: SEOAL 2009
gymrat i agree with ya. logan is good but they tend to forget the game against chillicothe. a scheduled league game or not they belong to the seoal period

Re: SEOAL 2009
I don't think they forget anything. They know they lost to Chillicothe, but they also know that it wasn't a scheduled league game. That means that it's not a league loss, even though Chillicothe was a member of the SEOAL. I don't see why it's so hard to differentiate between that. It wasn't a scheduling mistake or flaw. It was part of the system in place since Logan was in the SEOAL North and Chillicothe was in the SEOAL South. The two schools decided to finish out a non-league contract that had existed before the SEOAL expansion if I remember correctly. I understand the viewpoint that Logan lost to an SEOAL team, but it absolutely should not count against their SEOAL winning streak since it wasn't an SEOAL game.

Compared to the SEOAL Logan wont be down. Compared to Logan, Logan will be down next year. Logan will still romp the league. The league has fallen really far behind. Poeple are basing this off a very bad Freshman team record. A freshman team who was in every single game they played this year just didnt win. They have some very good talent and alot of potential. One class doenst make a varsity football team.

If they did, then Logan would have 83 SEOAL football titles. The pendulum indeed does swing back and forth as GAHS has discovered the last few years after winning the league three straight years and going to the playoffs something like 7 times since 1999. We have been down, but then 4-6 and 5-5 isnt exactly in the dumper either and we will be back. History says so. Just as Jackson will be back winning league championships again.
Success breeds success but it also leads to taking things for granted and assuming that what is will always be.
Logan wont lose a league game for at least another 2 years.

gymrat & 91, it wasnt a league loss so get over it. btw, it wasnt a flaw either.
thanks 02 for seeing the clear picture.
gahs is right. it may or may not be this year, but the run logan is on wont last forever. eventually it will end and maybe sooner than one thinks. it only takes an injury(knock on wood) or a fumble in a close game to lose that first seoal game in a while. logan looks to be very competitive for a while but we never know who or what team will rise up and reclaim the throne. jackson had their run, gallia had their run for a while, logan is on a nice run right now. it could be chilli's turn next. marietta is closer in size than anybody else in the league right now, what has happened to their program? i cant remember them winning league in at least a decade.

Marietta did in 02 or 03.
You dont have to have a team full of Patrick Angles and Mason mays' to win the SEOAL. Logan will be just fine when they are gone.

Marietta shared a league championship with Gallia in 2002, the year they broke Logan's 27 game league unbeaten streak.
Marietta was 3-1 in the league in 2004 going into week 10, if they could have beaten Gallia at Gallia they would have won a share of the league championship. And except for 2007, has been competitive in almost every league game.

Re: SEOAL 2009
I love how everyone is discounting the Trojans to compete in the South this year. I think they will surprise a lot of people this year. Last year was a learning curve for a young team. Every program has had those growing years with a young team. I think the Trojans will make the playoffs and make a run at the South Title. It's as if everyone wants to give the South to Ironton (not so fast). People forget that 2 years ago when Ironton was young Portsmouth pounded on them at Ironton. Last year the Trojans were young and Ironton pounded on them. This year should be a very good game and could decide the South Title. I also not counting out Gallia(with a new coach, Jackson (with a new coach), and Chilly with talent returning. The South could be very tight this year. There is no front runner in the South at this time it's still May.

gahs4ever wrote:In football the only distinction between north and south is for scheduling purposes because there is no DOC in football. Thus the team/teams with the best league records will be champs/co-champs. I'm pretty sure Chillicothe is going to the north of rthe 2009-10 school year only to balance out the two divisions because of teh departure of Zanesville, and I've been told after the upcoming school year when Ironton leaves that the league with 7 teams will go back to a one division format and no DOCs.
Also I dont know of anyone who is discounting Portsmouth. The question is who will WIN the SEOAL this year, and I would think the overwhelming majority would favor Logan given their recent success and who they have returning.
Thanks for the info gahs4ever, I didn't know that's how it worked in football. So, with that being said. Don't discount Portsmouth to challenge for second in the league behing Logan.

You must have overlooked my post:

Ironton
Logan
Portmouth
Gallia
Chillicothe
Warren
Marietta

Ironton has a good "team" this year and should be exceptionally strong on defense this season which hasn't been the case the last few seasons. Big ?'s are at offensive skilled positions, which as a sidenote won't have a Murphy for the first time in nearly a century. Look for a mentally and physically tuff group of Tigers this season. I love years that end in 9 as a Tiger fan!
Logan should be incredible again with undoubtably the best player in the SEOAL in Pat Angle. He is the best QB I have seen since Nate Davis and hopefully get alot of deserved statewide recognition this season. Mays will be tough to defend again as well, but Logan has alot of ?'s on D. Interested to see how the LB's are without Morgan and Adams or the end without Neff. Will Angle move back to DE this season?
Portsmouth will be vastly improved this season. Nothing like losing 9 with youngins to get experience and a thirst for winning. The Trojan athletes are always incredible and this year is no different, but they will have tested leadership in Josh Myers on both sides of the ball this season. He is gonna be one of P-town's best ever before he is done. This is a scary Portsmouth program that shouldn't be taken lightly this season.
Gallia is always a gutsy team that overcomes adversity and injuries to win ballgames. Hopefully this season they can stay healthy and have one less hurdle. The offense returns alot and Kruize Wandling should spearhead that effort. The defense has less returning, but Dylan Hunter is a tough assignment for anyone. Good luck to my second favorite team!
Chillicothe without Caleb Knights? Did he finally graduate? Offense lost a ton and will probably struggle, especially early. Defense is in a little better shape with the man in the middle Netter, but how is he without Ron Smith?
Warren, Marietta, & Jackson all have their issues. Warren can probably be summed up in 3 words this season: Pritt and Wolfe! The Warriors will be as good as they are on either side of the ball. Holy Caleb Knights, Marietta will not have Cody Westbrook. I can see Perry Wheeler being one of the best backs in the SEOAL this season, but what is he surrounded by? Looking forward to seeing him and the "other" Tigers on the river this season. I hate to think that Jackson will finish last, because I love the town, people, facilities, and SONIC at Jackson, but man did they lose alot including a coach. How do you replace a Cody Huff at Jackson? Well, you don't. Derick Meredith is the only skilled player that returns and 2 LB's on defense in Haller and Landrum and that is about it. Here's to hoping I am wrong Ironmen!

There is now way this Portsmouth team finishes in last place. They will challenge for one of the top 3 spots. There will be no 1-9 season over the next 2 years with this group. They took their lumps and will deliver some over the next couple of years.
